I have received some great info on renting cars from various sites. It was suggested to book and keep looking and checking.

So I booked through costco but I still have a question. How often do you guys typically check to see about better rates. I booked last night. I'm just not sure how often to check.

Thanks for your expertise in advance. :thumbsup2

I check pretty much every time I think about it. Usually ends up being every couple days or so until a couple weeks before departure, then I try to check everyday.

Checking back often has *always* paid off for me.

I was at DL last month. Using Costco's site (I am a member) I had it down to $95 total with all fees, for a Sat to Sat rental. I took a compact, because I wanted better mileage. But bigger cars were about the same price. (did not look at SUVs and minivans).

I used Budget, but the others were about the same price.

Great. Thanks so much. I booked through Budget and was a bit leery since we have always used Enterprise. This makes me feel better! $95! That would be awesome. Keepng my fingers crossed. We are at $384 right now.

This all new to me. I've never been able to find a good deal for a rental.

Do you have to pay any money when you make the reservation?

Thanks

Unless you choose the "pay in now", most of the time you are not required to give credit card info when making the reservation.

However, the rate on Costco has been high for my travel date, Nov 1-4. I wonder why. I have a reservation with Hertz using Entertainment rate for $17.09 per day for a mid size car. I guess this is the best that I can find unless Costco lowers more....

Don't forget to try and go through Ebates.com or Fatwallet.com for great deals and cash back as well. I booked our 8 day car rental through Thrifty via Ebates and received 15% off an mid size SUV PLUS will get 4% cash back from Ebates. The first day I booked it, it was $222 for the 8 days and then I checked again the next day it was down to $185 for an midsize SUV. Smaller cars were a little less but my DS gets car sick so we wanted something a little taller that he can see out of better.

Oh, I did compare Costco with my deal on Ebates, and the Ebates deal was better for our travel dates.

I had never used Priceline before so I was hesitate. I was about 3 weeks out and started looking at rental companies prices (I had booked already buut it was around $300 for the 9 days). I gave Priceline a shot. You do have to enter your credit card information so if your offer is accepted it is charged and I do not believe you can cancel. I started with $10 a day and went back and forth until my $13 was accepted. So if they do not accept your $10 you can come back with $11 and so on. It was pretty easy and I am glad I gave it a shot.

It was Avis that finally accepted out offer. I would use it again for a rental car, but for a hotel or airfare I would be hesitate. A car is a car, but a hotel is another thing.

Wow, thanks for the info! I'll definitely look into that :)
