car rental woes, what happened to the prices?

We got exceptional rates thru travelocity.com; I think it was around $19 a day plus fees and taxes.
The fees and taxes are the real killer - I swear down there they add tax on their tax! If I remember right the taxes and such equaled almost $10 a day. The rental company was a local one, but the car was VERY nice, and the reps were friendly and helpful.

Try www.hotwire.com for rental cars. I recently got a mid-size car for a trip to LA for $17.07 a day and they give you the full price of the rental, including all taxes, before you decide. The only thing is they don't tell you what company it is with until after you give credit card information. Like Priceline, these ressies can't be changed but they were at least $50.00 lower than the lowest rate that I could find.
