car rental on WDW property questions

hi - i know that there is car rental on property both at the car care center (near the MK entrance - gas station there as well. i believe the companies there are Alamo and Enterprise) AND you can also rent from a few different companies thru some of the hotels in the DTD area....

my questions are:

we are not certain if we will need to rent at all, or possibly just for a few days. are we foolish not to make a reservation? will they "run out" of cars? is there a considerable price difference if you reserve/pay ahead of time or if you just walk up to the counter and try to rent?

if we do decide to rent from either a company at the car care center or from one of the DTD resorts...how do we get to the rental place? (ok - if at DTD resort, we could possibly take a WDW bus to the DTD area and then walk to the resort, but what about the car care center?) does the car care center have a shuttle (free/fee) that i can call or have Guest Services call for me? do i have to call a taxi to take me there? same question about getting back to my resort when i drop off the rental?

Alamo and National also have a location at the Dolphin. I can't speak for DTD hotels, but I would definitely reserve a car in advance if you want to pick-up at the Dolphin. I have seen signs at the Dolphin saying "no cars available" for walk-ups. It's usually less expensive to reserve a car in advance.

The Car Care Center provides free shuttle service. Last year I rented a car for just part of our OKW stay. It was VERY easy...Alamo picked me up from OKW to get car and then returned our whole group to one of the parks which is where we wanted to spend the day..then we just used WDW bus to get back to OKW. You arrange the shuttle pickk up directly with the car rental company (I think they told me to call an hour or so before I needed pick up).

we have reserved a car last minute simply by calling the 800 number of the car rental agency the night before... i also print out any coupon and codes found online (www.mousesavers.com) before traveling so i have them handy to get a discount...

the car care center will pick you up via shuttle (call the ccc from your resort room the night before or morning of) and return you when you return the car... although we've found returning our car to the dolphin to be the easiest if we want to go elsewhere in wdw (like a theme park) as we simply bring the car to the valet and hop on the next bus (or boat) to our destination...

When you pick up your car at the Dolphin do they take you to a different site to get your car or are they kept right at the hotel.

The cars are at the site/hotel. There is no shuttle to the Dolphin, only the Car Care Center.
