Car Rental oin St. Thomas

I would like to rent a car in St. Thomas for my family of 5 for the day to explore the island.

I know there is a Budget, but are there any other companies near the place where the ship docks?

I would like a jeep, but do they seat five? Any idea of the costs?

I looked on Orbitz.com and they had four car rental companies on St Thomas (Budget, Thrifty, Hertz, and Avis). You can do some price checking.

As for fittign 5 in a Jeep, it can be done. In 1992, the Navy ship I was on stopped in St Thomas, and 5 of us guys reneted a Jeep to tour the island. It was fun, and we all seemed to fit (albiet snuggly) and those on the end had to hold on while climbing some of the steeper hills. I didn't feel unsafe, as the person driving took it slow during the hard climbs and the speed limit isn't very high anyway.

Renting a car on ST Thomas is very simple. I think you get to see much more of the island.

Avis is very close to Budget. Both are within walking distance of the Magic (when docking at Havensight).

We've rented Jeeps in the past, I don't think you could fit in a family of 5. We were crowded with a family of 4 (DD13 and DS7 in the back seat).

Usually get a daily rental for about $65. Gas prices were $0.50 per gallon higher than out local prices.

We rented a jeep from Avis, with no reservations. 5 people would be very squishy.

We had a fantastic time - the best day of our whole trip! We took the jeep over on the ferry to St. John and explored the whole island! There are some beautiful beaches over there, where you can swim & snorkel all by yourselves! They also have some very nice shopping and good restaurants.

If you go over to St. John, just be sure to catch the ferry back in time to return the car before the ship leaves!
