I know there are some savvy credit card users on this forum :)

I read on the Chase website that it is primary coverage as long as the cost of the rental is paid in full with the card. Can anyone verify that if I rent a car through a third party (like Expedia, Priceline, UCT) and pay with my Chase Sapphire Preferred card, do I get the rental insurance coverage?

Thank you :ccat:

I can't think of any good reason to rent a car through a third party. Are you seeing a discount that way? I doubt they'd cover a priceline reservation (opaque sites usually have very different rules), but others seem like they'd count.

DISCOUNT 🙂 especially with UCT.

Does the charge go through as an Expedia charge or directly to the car rental company?

If you book a pay later rate through the third parties you'll get the insurance. Booking a prepaid rate would be questionable. At that point you paid say Expedia, for what Chase doesn't know, and Expedia paid Hertz for the rental. By booking a pay later rate, you are paying Hertz directly.

As an aside, the best way to book a rental car is using autoslash.com It goes through Priceline, but finds a lot of discount codes and comparisons for you. They have saved me over $1,000 in the last couple years on rentals, both at booking and after booking if the price drops.
