Car rental in Grand Cayman?

Has anyone rented a car while in Grand Cayman? Are the rentals close to the port? How much can I expect to pay?

If anyone explored the island on their own, please let me know your experiences.

We rented through Avis on both occasions that we went to Grand Cayman and it was fine. We did the rental online. When you get off the tender at the dock you go to the Blue Iguana and tell them you have rented a car. Someone then comes out to pick you up and take you to the airport to complete the paperwork and pick up the car. It was about 15 - 20 minutes to the airport as I recall. When we'd finished we took the car back to the airport and were then driven back to the dock. Painless all round.

We drove to Rum Point last time and got there well before the excursion did so we had our pick of the chairs etc. and could snorkel and swim while it was quiet. We left in time to drive round some more of the island and then dropped the car back.

We found the independent route worked well for us.

Sorry I forgot to mention the cost. It was pretty reasonable I think; about $50 for a car which took 5 of us.
