Car rental hotel pickup questions - Tip or Not?

Just a quick question....

I'm renting from Budget at the Double Tree near Downtown Disney (taking ME to the hotel) and I'm waffling between hoping onto a Downtown Disney bus and walking over to pick up the car or arranging for a pickup. If I do get the pick up is it appropriate to tip the driver or not? I waffling between Yes and "but I'm sinking a couple hundred bucks into the rental!"

Interesting question.

Right now our plan is for DH to pick up our rental at the Double Tree too. But he'll be coming from another hotel and I think he'll have his luggage with him (including golf clubs).

I'd say that if you have luggage that the driver helps you with, then you should tip. But, I'm assuming you won't have luggage, so you probably don't need to tip unless the driver was particular helpful in some way.

Bumping this up to see if anyone had anymore advice....and wondering how it went for your dh, maurene!?

If he is loading luggage, a small tip would be fine.

Just to drop off a car maybe.

If he is waiting with the car door open for you. A yes.

I would tip the driver if he's coming to pick you up at your hotel even if he doesn't carry your bags or have the door open for you. I consider it more of a specialty service and less than a shuttle service like at an airport.

That's what I was thinking...any idea on how much to tip?

When I rent a car at an airport with a shuttle, I give the driver $2 for helping with my 1 piece of luggage.

$1-$2 /bag is a "normal" tip if a shuttle driver helps you with your luggage. I'm sure a driver wouldn't object if a passenger without luggage tipped a dollar or two.
