Car rental help

Looking to make a trip during peak time, Dec 27-Jan 5th. We do this trip annually to hit some college bowl games in Fla and take the kid to the World. Before you ask, yes, we must rent a car as we stay with friends outside of the property and do lots of non-Diz stuff while we are in FLA. Been doing this for many, many years. Usually I can use coupon codes from mousesavers.net to get a week mid-sized car for $350 or so with taxes, even during the holidays. I looked today and plugged in tons of codes for many of the usual suspects and the rates are $900-$1100 for that 8 days?? Man, rates have boomed or something? Anyone have a trick or idea?

Are you looking at car agencies that are located right in the airport? There are some hefty fees that are associated with rentals originating in those locations. Consider using one that has a remote location and a shuttle bus at the airport.

Priceline or Hotwire might be another option to consider if you are not particular as to what company you rent from.
