Car rental from Lakeland

We are having a horrible time getting car rental details worked out. My friend is flying into Lakeland and is going off to Tampa before meeting us at Orlando airport 2 days later. We are interested in a rental car for Monday 15th to Saturday 27th. My friend flies out super early that morning and the car rental companies are not open yet. What would you suggest.

Has your friend called the Lakeland location of Hertz?

Most car rental locations allow returns after hours and before hours. Typically, you park your car in a rental car space, note your mileage and fuel level on your folder, lock the car, and put the keys and the folder into a secure after-hours slot.

The downside is that the rental car company calculates your rental based on the car being returned at the time they reopen, not the time you actually returned the car. Usually that's not an issue because car rentals at airports are measured in 24-hours periods, not calendar days.
