My BFF and I are taking a 5-night trip to WDW for my birthday. Normally, I am fine with DME since we stay at AKV and use the bus. Since we are staying at Pop this time, I much prefer to have a car, but the prices are outrageous! Last January, I was able to get a mid-size for 8 days (with coupon codes and such) for $77 total. Now, admittedly, that was a great bargain, but I can't find anything for under $250 for 5 days. Even the compacts are running at $40 a day.
Since we are arriving on a Thursday and departing on a Tuesday, am I just getting socked with the weekend rates? We really do not want to spend $250 on a car. The convenience isn't worth that much. We were thinking that we would do it for $150 or less so I was thinking about trying Priceline. Having never used this before, I am wondering what kind of success people have had. They say that a "good" bid is around $38-40. How far below the "good" bids have people had success? I was thinking about just putting in bids every day up until we leave (or one gets accepted) and then if we do not have any luck, we'll just stick to DME and the buses.
Any hints or suggestions? FWIW, I have the Entertainment book and I am familiar with all of the mousesavers codes. I am not particular about the company, but I would certainly prefer a "major" brand.
Thanks!
