Car Rental at Sanford Airport

Can someone with experience tell me if there are car rental companies actually in the terminal or are they off property? Do they have a shuttle to pick you up? I am unsure of which company to use. I will have 3 bags and 2 kids.

The car rental counters are on-site, in the terminal. The last time we flew into Sanford, my dh went to get the bags, while I headed to the car rental counter. I could actually watch him as soon as he left the immediate baggage claim area from the counter..it is that close. Then, you walk outside, cross the street (not a big one) and the lots are right there.
Renting a car at Sanford was perhaps the easiest car rental at an airport I've had.

Goofy4tink, thank you so much! This is our first time flying with Allegiant, using Sanford and renting a car. I seem to be struggling with making the rental car decision, so I am very glad you could give me clarity, it has been very insightful! Now I just need to find a good company and a good deal and I will be all set. I hope the trip is much smoother than the planning has been!

We got a good rate for August with Advantage rental cars. It was the least expensive for our dates.

Thanks for this thread. We are flying allegiant into Sanford as well in July though and we've rented a car in the terminal through hertz, but I was curious of the convenience of it! Thanks!!

Just flew out of there in March. Alamo had the best selection and quantity of cars. It is the furthest, but still not far at all of the on sites. I have pics on my phone still if anyone wants to see these PM me.

Hertz, budget etc are literally right across the street from baggage claim, maybe 50-75 yards. Alamo is at the end of the lot, maybe a block walk from baggage pickup (100-120 yards).
Super convenient for both pickup and drop off.

We normally use Alamo, they even take debit cards, without a credit check or extra deposits, if you have a fight plan.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful info. Please keep it coming! I still don't have a rental lined up yet. I have no idea what size car to get for 3 suitcases plus room for a cooler and groceries too. Will a full size car be big enough? Rates still seem high to me and I will need it beginning June 6.
