As I found out the hard way. Every car rental place would not let me use my chime bank card. As we sat stranded at the airport with plenty of money and no way to pay for the car...
We ended up using my paypal mastercard debit card after I moved some money to it via zoom. So so stupid that they wont take chime but they take paypal debit.
Just dont want anyone else stranded at the airport especially when they are low on cars.

Debit is always a headache when it comes to rental cars.

I just got a notice from AAA today:

"We have just been informed by Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty that they have updated their rental policies with regard to the acceptance of debit cards, effective immediately. We don't want you to be surprised when you go to pick up your vehicle, so we're giving you a heads-up regarding those policies.

As always, we recommend the use of a major credit card, not a debit card, for all rental vehicles. Doing so provides more protection for you and helps to speed up the rental check-in process. Credit card policies have not changed."

I always use a credit card and make sure I check the card's updated car rental insurance as some companies have recently dropped coverage.

The lady at the airport told me people were getting a car for a day with a debit card and emptying the card and never bringing the car back... so stealing a car for less than $500. In some states they do not consider this theft of a motor vehicle the charge is unlawful use and that's not a felony charge..

Sadly that scenario doesn't surprise me. I've heard lots of stories about Hotels and debit cards and why almost none of the major chains will take prepaid cards, I'm shocked that it wasn't policy before to only accept a major credit card.

But what shocked me was they singled out Chime bank. In the chime bank information it says not a prepaid card. I also have a secured visa credit card by chime they do not take that eitherScreenshot_20210407-161442_Samsung Internet.jpg

we rent with turo very easily with debit , never questioned, no extra fees and have had car delivered right to us at all star sports, its like the AirBnB of car rentals.
