Hi! We are off to Cali next year and are currently looking at care hire. Current plan is hire in Anaheim and return to LAX. Who did you hire with and was it a easy experience?
TIA

We have used Carhire3000 (Travel Jigsaw if you want Aussie $). We have used them twice. They are a wholesaler and you don't know which car hire company you are getting until you finalise the booking. We got Dollar both times and they were fine. We did pick up and drop off in LAX though. Not sure they've got a site in Anaheim.
Car hire 3000 includes all of the taxes and insurances that we need from Australia. If you are booking directly with a car hire company, make sure you're on the Australian site, as if you're on the US site, the price won't include all extras you need.
I check both Carhire3000 which is in UK Pounds, and also Traveljigsaw, which is in AUD. check which is the cheapest, dependant on the exchange rate.

We went with Dollar in 2012 - rented an SUV for about 5 weeks. Picked up in LAX, took ages though, both the shuttle bus and the queue at the rental place took forever. Then I got a choice of exactly one SUV which had plenty of ks on the clock, but was generally reliable and spacious. Drop off was really easy though. Pulled up at the drop off place and was on my way in about 3 minutes onto a waiting shuttle bus that dropped us off at LAX.

Overall I'd give them a passmark. Nothing terrible, but I didn't have to call them with any problems so I can't vouch for their performance in those circumstances.

I recommend Alamo as they are onsite at Downtown Disney, and Alamo and National share a site on West Katella Avenue.

However, whilst I like driving in the US, if you are going straight from Anaheim to LAX I STRONGLY recommend using a shuttle like Disneyland Express (or SuperShuttle) rather than driving.

I'll second that. I'd rather get a shuttle or towncar than drive myself LAX to Anaheim or back.

Having said that, we found the best deal on car hire for our upcoming Hawaii trip on the UK Alamo site. The UK site includes all the insurance you need. We went for the Gold plan that included GPS, petrol, insurance, extra driver etc. Worked out cheaper than adding them desperately. As with all things, you need to visit the different sites (as suggested above), and work our which is the best deal after currency conversions etc. Just make sure you get quotes that include insurance for non US drivers.
