We are thinking of hiring a people carrier to go to DLP. There are 6 of us so don't want to take 2 cars.

Can anyone recommend a car hire company? Also what sort of costs do you think it will be for 5 days?

I have found that if you search on expedia you sometimes get much better prices than if you go on the company website.
you can scroll down after you search for the type of car you want.

Bear in mind that a lot of UK car hire companies forbid the vehicle from leaving the UK.

Also, check out whether full insurance is included in the price or whether its an added extra payable at pickup. Sometimes the excess can be £500. Hertz are one of those that have a high excess unless you buy their additional insurance, which can be £20+ per day.

An alternative is to buy an annual car hire insurance policy that covers you from the high excesses. I use: http://www.insurance4carhire.com/

Thanks for that. I just checked out Hertz and it will cost just under £400 to hire a people carrier!!!!! It also comes with a £600 excess - eeeeek!

It will be cheaper to fly. I was just put off the whole flying business cos of all the strikes that seem to happen.

Hi Loobymiss, We have hired a 7 seat Renault Espace from Avis to go to DLRP in December. It is costing £436 for the hire of the car then another £80 to take it out of the country then another £105 for added cover so the excess is just £100. So thats a total of £621 for 7 days.

BUT... The good thing is that the £436 we paid with Tesco clubcard deals which we saved up through the year. So we only have to pay out £185 in cash.
