I'm just trying to sort out car hire and wonder if I could pick the brains of those of you that have cruised.

We are wanting to pick up a car in Tampa (where we are flying into), use it for 3 days, then drive onto Port Canaveral to board the DD. We will then need it upon our return for the remainder of our trip to WDW.

We have always used US Carhire before, but when I looked they don't seem to have a drop off point at PC. What do the rest of you do?

When we did our first two cruises, we kept our rental car but they were only 3 day cruises so it wouldn't have saved us much to return the car and rent again afterwards.

This time, though, we have rented from USRentacar (using Dollar).

There are a few car hire companies who have car rental depots in Port Canaveral - Dollar, Thrifty, Enterprise and Avis are all on North Atlantic Avenue. Budget are on Astronaut Boulevard.

Given that some companies may charge an extra amount for one-way rental, it would be worth weighing up the options, bearing in mind that parking at the port is $15 per day.

Thank you so much, that was really helpful. We too will only be doing a 3 night cruise, so as you say it will probably be easier and cheaper to just keep hold of the car and just pay parking.

If it's a 3 day cruise I would just pay to park the car also, the last time we picked up from there we had to wait about 50 mins at the rental desk.

The car rental places at the port are under Cape Canaveral not Port, that's why usrentacar doesn't come up with any results.

We only drop off on the 7 night cruises, this August doing 4 night, considered dropping the car but decided for the difference in cost and convenience we would rather keep it for storage.
When collecting a car after a cruise you collect early morning but drop off at the airport later in the day so you lose a days rental for those few hours. Meaning your 3 days on cruise would only save you 2 days rental(plus cost of parking)
No way would I drop car for a 3 day cruise, 4 days I consider but always kept it so far, 7 days will always drop now.
