its not my experience that rates increase as the date nears
the opposite in fact

this is common practice to give you a bit of a jolt and try to make you finalise the booking with them.

I just had a look at tripdavisor reviews of carental8 and there are lot of really bad reports, of dodgy practices like not including all the taxes in the booking and people having to pay these when they pick up the car.

I would have a look at the info before booking with them.
