Hey - probably a stupid question

Are the cigar lighter / charger sockets in USA cars the same as in the UK?

We're taking our won sat nav and charger - just wanted to check that the connection will be the same?

Yep, exactly the same. We take one of those double adapters so we can both charge our phones at the same time, or a phone and our satnav

As cheryl has said yes. BUT to be safe Bring a CABLE

that at one end ... fits into your Sat Nav .... And the Other end has an USB connection

This USB connection end SHOULD / MIGHT be able to connect INTO Cigar / lighter adapter

that plugs into Fixed ( Female ) socket in dashboard

The reason is that Most new cars have USB Connections & Seperate sockets for other

elotronics .......... Cigar Lighters are nearly gone from NEW Cars

I'm an ex-pat that lives in Canada and even the new cars still have the outlet to charge things it just doesn't have a cigar lighter in it. In fact I have a Nissan Rogue which is the same as the Qashqai and it has two of these ports for charging. One at the front dash and the other in the console/arm rest in the front seats. It also has a USB charge point too.

Most North American cars will have 1 if not 2 charging spots and more of the newer cars also have the USB charging port as well.

If you get really stuck most corner shops/Wal-mart have a range of cheap plug in adapters (they plug into the cigar lighter but have a USB port that you can plug into. I think the one I bought was around $4.99. You can also buy similar for the wall sockets so you can charge Apple devices and other USB charged items without having converter plugs.
