Capture the Flag

All right, I was able to experiment with this button yesterday while playing with friends. I was hoping it would drop BOTH flags, but no, just your own. Gr! I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of this. I know many of you have said to use the button to pass the flag to a team mate. BUT that means you would have to have an IM chat window open with your team mate(which I usually do anyways), but gee, by the time you stop your boat, type to your team member that you are going to drop the flag and to come pick it up, then actually drop the flag and move out of the way, and wait for your team mate to pick it up, you have just wasted about 5 seconds or more!! You could be that much closer to base if you didn't go through all of that... :confused3 Soooooo, still trying to figure out a way to use it, or perhaps I am WAY overthinking this.... LOL! pirate: pirate: pirate:

Skip the IM chat, just say it in the game. The time it takes for someone to say, "drop the flag"; for you to drop the flag and for that person to pick it up isn't very long at all if they are riding on your stern. Honestly, I wouldn't have known what the button was for if I hadn't encountered this situation. Somebody told me to drop the flag, they grabbed it and headed for home. The other team was clueless and continued to chase me. Fortunately, I was able to figure out how to drop the flag and realized I should lead the other team toward my home but not in the same way my team mate was going. In that particular game, my role became something like bait where I drew out the person from the other team whose strategy was to guard our home to prevent us from dropping the flag there. The ship came out after me, not realizing I had dropped the flag and the person who really had the flag sailed into home. Does that make more sense?

The unfortunate thing is, most people don't seem to know about the button and the strategy. I dropped the flag for another player one time and they just sailed by without grabbing it. Oops.

I think the best way to use the button is to play with friends who are aware of the strategy and can sense when you are going to use it. I've played some very intense games against teams who seemed to have this strategy perfected. They are able to fake out the other team very easily. It's kind of funny to watch even if you are on the losing team because the losing team is so confused about what happened.

It's probably not much different from passing the ball in a soccer game or passing the puck in a hockey game. One player could try to go for the goal but that's not always the best way to aproach scoring in games.

lol just a side note about chatting during the game.

I chat usually to offer encouragement or to find out if someone is on a quest and need to win or a certain amount of ghosts. The easiest time to say something in ghosts is when you are running around like a lunatic after a ghosts touches you. :rotfl2: there are usually have a few seconds when you don't have much control over your player then.

Also, i find it less confusing in pirates to use the mouse to shoot then try to remember which arrow key you need. but that's just me.

Well, I did it! I was playing pirates with my sister Palmnut yesterday and had the opportunity to try out that elusive flag button.

I had the flag on the way back to our base but unfortunately I was a cute little rowboat. I noticed Palm coming up right behind me so I quickly dropped the flag and she picked it right up and brought it back to base! All this without a word being said between us at all!

Hey, it works! :teeth:

OMG, I think I would kill myself it I had to do all that, muchless communicate in IM while in a pirates game! In theory, your team it watching everything and a fellow teammate is right there for the pick up when you drop.

Of course, "get flag" typed very quickly would seem to get the message across as well. Good Luck!

EDIT: Just read the remaining portion of thread. Seems you made it work for you - yay!!! aarrr! pirate:
