Hi all. I was wondering about Captains Grille for dinner. I haven't found much in reviews about this place and was curious if was worth a trip.

There's a couple quick reviews linked in my dining report in my signature. We've eaten there about 6 times now and besides my questionable choice in breakfast, the food and service has been great! The crab cakes are my favorite, my DH loved the seafood chowder and the mussels appetizer and we've both tried the short rib specials (he got he short rib and corn risotto and I've had the short ribs over pappardelle pasta) and loved it! I would say it's a really great 1 TS choice and not very difficult to get a reservation at.

Thank you! It will be my husband and I 6th anniversary and we wanted a great dinner away from the crowds.

We ate there in April and it was a surprise hit. I'm going to see if I can find my post from my trip report...

we enjoyed it a few weeks ago. We wanted to check out the YC/BC area. We had a great table and the food was great, restaurant not too crowded. I had the crab cake dinner and it was really good. It was fun to stroll around the resort after and check out storm along bay.

It would be fun to get a drink first at the Ale and Compass lounge (if you drink). It looked so cozy as we walked by and it is around the corner from Captains Grille.

This has been our go-to restaurant for the past three trips. It's a hidden gem in our book providing a somewhat fancy meal for reasonable prices (when it comes to Disney). Everything we've eaten here - crab cakes, pork, short ribs (or some type of beef...can't quite remember) has been great.

Great menu, loved all my meals there (dinner/lunch) along with great service, I think it's a hidden treasure.

Thank you, I love pictures of food, it gives you a better idea of what to expect. It all looked very good.

That was on of the reasons I chose it, I have never been to the boardwalk area.

Hidden gem is my favorite kind of place! It seems the crab cakes are really a hit there.

Thank you, I had read a few reviews on another site that said service can be inconsistent, so I am glad you had great service.

We ate lunch there a couple of weeks ago, it was a big hit!
Was it kid friendly enough? We will have our two kids with us, so it needs to strike a balance. Although our kids are used to going out to eat.

We had dinner here once last December. It was a last minute ADR, and we were very pleasantly surprised! The food was much, much better than we were expecting. I had delicious crab cakes that were on par with the higher end restaurants we dine at (in WDW and at home). Our server was wonderful, and even brought us a special anniversary dessert to share. We do a lot of breakfasts here as well, but will definitely do dinner here again, especially when we're staying at YC again. Plus, you can enjoy the boardwalk afterward and take in the sights and sounds. Very romantic!!

And yes... it's very kid friendly.

I just cancelled our ADR here because of all the constant bad review including Pet Werner from the Dis and I trust his opinion

We ate here last March and we all loved it! Great service, good food and a littler quieter / lower key than most places. We'll be back!

Thank you, I am so excited about being able to walk the boardwalk after.

I think I am going to give it a try. I have gotten great reviews here so far.

Low key is always welcomed for us.

Great place for dinner. Loved the crab cake appetizer. My daughter and I both had the New York Strip steak and thought it was an excellent steak for the price.

Our Recommendations:
. . . appys:... Crab Cake
. . . entree:.. Bourbon NY Strip, Rosemary Pork Chop
. . . dessert:. Key Lime Tart

NOTE: The food at Captain's Grille is usually above average and quite tasty, but
pretty expensive for what your are getting. At 25% less cost, it would be quite
worth the price. The service is very spotty and our server was almost surly. We're
fond of the New York Strip and the Rosemary Pork Chop. But, the Chicken was dry
and bland. One would also expect a great plate presentation for the price, but the
plating looks like a local diner's Blue Plate Special
. The dessert Key Lime is a good
end for the meal. I would prefer lunch, as the sandwiches are very tasty and the
price-value is good. For a nice lunch, try the Soup and Salad - there is one or two
choices for a sandwich, as it is a chef's special for the day. I had the shrimp
salad sandwich and clam chowder. Pretty good for about $15.

Saw somewhere discussion of a possible major refurbishment here in early 2017. Anyone have information on that one?
I wanted to go for the breakfast buffet on the last day of our late-January trip, and hoping it will be open.
