In a quest to not eat at the same restaurants that we always visit, I made ADR's at Captain's Grill and Cape May - both for dinner. I see more discussion on Cape May than Captian's Grill and for the most part everyone's comments have been pretty favorable but they aren't in the top 10 of most discussed restaurants. The menus look good (but then again they looked good at several restaurants we wound up having horrible meals!). Any nice or terrible experiences that someone can share with me? I still have time to move things around if I need to.

We ate at both places in May. Dh loves the crab legs at Cape May Buffet while I prefer the non seafood which I call the landlubbers side. Everything is always fresh and good.

The only things I dont like there are the corn as it is frozen and the carved beef is not the greatest and they do have new england clam chowder, I guess coming from NY we prefer the Manhattan kind which is tomato based instead.

Captaiins Grille we both didnt like. The food was mediocre at best and we are in no hurry to return. The only bright side of our meal was that our server was really nice and friendly. I ordered the crab cake app. I know everyone on the boards raves about it. Dh had the rock shrimp app. I tasted my crab cake. Dh tasted it and promptly declared that I "send it back immediately". I got the rock shrimp that dh had. We both ordered the steaks. His was cooked to order. Mine was overdone and the mashed potatoes were cold. I am thinking this happened as I had a substitute app. We both had the gelato for dessert.

I had been thinking about the pork chop. When we left I saw a man who had it. It looked just like a giant chop on the plate. It was only barely half eaten. I think the man didnt care for it either.

In the future we might consider lunch but I know there are alot of other options.

Have only eaten at Cape May and it's a "must miss" for us.

First, the food wasn't anything to write home about. Second, we are a family of five and they placed us in a booth for four (open on both ends) and put a chair on one end. No way for the two of us sitting on that end to get up without having to get someone else to move. Also DS sat in that chair and got bumped by every person (including CMs) who walked past him. Last, had to send out search and rescue for waiter to ask for drink refill, every time.

Only the second Disney restaurant that made it onto our "never again" list.

We ate at CMC last month and it was good. There were 7 of us and the food was good. Line at the buffet was always present but it moved quickly. We had plenty of seafood and non-seafood items to keep everyone happy.

The only downside was our server and even that really wasn't that awful. She just was not as attentive as I would have liked.

There are some pictures and our trip report on the restaurant here.

Hope this helps some. :)

We enjoy the Came May buffet for the crablegs and the clam chowder soup. The rest is pretty good as well. Last trip we had a very good server but most of the time they have been fair at best. They really only need to do drinks and plates. The food is cnstantly refilled and fresh. We are their 2/3 times a year.

I have been told that it takes senority to get to there or CP so you usually see older servers and they get a pretty set tip so they don't try as hard.I guess it's a given. I heard this from 2 younger servers at 2 other locations, but I tend to agree based on our experiences.

We have been to Cap Grill and think it is so-so.. Service was fine but the food was hit or miss. We would eat there again but not hesitate to speak up or send something back if not done right.

We ate there last year with a pretty big group (9) and really enjoyed it. After a minor change in plans for our trip this year, I've been trying to find an ADR for our first night because we'd really like to go back but haven't been able to. DD has started being more adventurous with her eating, especially regarding seafood, and we think the buffet would be a great chance for her to try some new items without having to order them.

Also, we had a late addition last year when 2 local friends decided to join us. I was able to get them a ressie for 2 at the same time as ours for 7, thinking my parents who were with us could sit by themselves if need be. But the CMs were able to get us a table to combine our reservations and all sit together, still at our assigned ADR time.

I'd say CMC dinner rates as one of our top 10 and maybe top 5 meals we've had at WDW.

We've never eaten at Captain's Grill, but we love Cape May for both breakfast and dinner.....both meals are a must do for us every trip :goodvibes.

I'm trying it for the first time in August. My husband and I are taking out 5 children. I wanted to try something new and good friends of ours just returned from there:wizard: and they loved it...she told me I had to try it. I'm looking forward to it!!!!!

i think captain's grill is alright, the food was decent, but not as good as other nearby restaurants at the same price point (read:in Epcot or BW lol). i think it is good for a hotel meal if you're staying nearby, but not worth a special trip. we kind of have the mindset that if we're there and its convenient we'll eat there, but we found Big River Grill at BW much better all around

Captain's Grill isn't discussed much because it's very boring. Not much of a theme and very ordinary food. It is usually pretty quiet though because not many people eat there.

We really like the Captain's Grille. I think, like many resort restaurants, that unless there is a "special" draw, people don't make the trek. B/C CG doesn't have characters, or a buffet, I think it gets overlooked, but we have always had a great meal and now do make the trek from wherever just to eat there.

We've never eaten at Captain's Grill, but we eat at Cape May at least once each trip. We like the variety of food, and the crab legs are always great. Our service there has always been good, too.

We always try to get the same server, Genesis. He is awesome! He even remembers what we drink, cranberry juice for DH and Sprite with no ice for me, and brings it to us as soon as he sees us. There have been a couple of times when his section was full, but he always comes over and says hello to us.

We are trying Cape May for the first time in September, largely based on what I've read here on the DIS. Have you ever eaten at Raglen Road in DTD? It has really good food and in the evenings they have live entertainment. We love it there. We're also trying to branch out and eat at new places. It's hard to leave our tried and true ones, though. Good luck!

Haven't tried Captain's Grill but we love Cape May for dinner. We are going again in November. The buffet is well maintained and nice selection. The soups and seafood are really good and the desserts are yummy.

We've eaten at both. If I were going to choose one, I'd choose Cape May, but I liked Captain's Grille too. CG has simple decor, but it is quieter than CM and made for a relaxing meal. We were also able to eat there without an ADR. FWIW, I had the crab cakes at CG and thought they were good.

Cape May is a must do for us, at least once a trip and if I have my way then twice LOL. We stubbled onto it by accident, were looking for Beaches and Cream but couldn't find it for some reason, got a walk up for Cape May and the rest is history ( 4 trips on and we still haven't tried Beaches and Cream) LOL

We've only been to the Cape May Buffet. It was a disappointment. It was just OK. But I was disappointed with the crab legs. I love crab legs so truthfullly they were the only reason we went. I found them very small and meat was stringy. It stuck to the shell and was impossible to dig out. But if you don't care out the crab legs I think the rest of the buffet was average. But we wouldn't bother again :rolleyes1

My sis and I wandered into Captains Grille at 2pm one day when we had missed lunch. We still talk about it as our "surprise discovery" . With respect to other posters, we found the decor/theme very nice and the crab cakes were the best we had on that trip. Our server was delightful (it was very quiet)

Cape May was my first dinner on the last two (and future, I hope) trips. I really like the buffet. I really have never had a dish that was not enjoyable. The CM were always very attentive, I liked watching the families with kids.
I like hot food to be served hot, cold food to be fresh and a pint of seasonal Sam Adams beer!:thumbsup2
