I get really confused about what is posted about Cape May. Some menus shown online look very limited, and then others show more food choices. We are hoping to try this restaurant out for the first time this year, but wanted some clarification. Are crab legs on the dinner menu every night? Are they still offering calamari on certain nights? Is this a "never miss" for anyone? Thanks!

Crab legs every night, and my kids still complain about the 1 trip that we didn't go to Cape May (we did Boston Lobster Feast instead that year since we were offsite; also the only time we did offsite). We have it planned again for May and October....

I can't say it's a never miss for me; I find it to be your typical institutional mass made buffet food focused on quantity rather than quality. I personally was not impressed with the rather thin crab legs either; however they are on the buffet every night. But with all that said I'm not the best person to listen too when it comes to dinner buffets; other than Boma there is not a dinner buffet I will eat at. I am not a fan of buffet food at all.

No, thanks for that! We love Boma and go almost every time. We have tired of Crystal Palace (really only went for the kids) and the food quality was not that great for us the past couple times. We have never been to Cape May, and were hoping for something great! May have to rethink . . .

Don't let me scare you off; there are many who enjoy this place, I'm just not a fan of buffet restaurants other than for breakfast, and even then I find those to be average. I wanted to really like Cape May but didn't. Boma continues to be the only buffet restaurant I actually enjoy for dinner. Even outside of WDW, I don't care for buffets.

I've had great experiences at Cape May the past 3 years. My first time dining there about 4 yrs ago was not so great because the crab legs were tiny, stringy and soggy. Crab legs are the headliner here so it makes a big difference. But happy to report the legs have been very good the last 3 visits and I have also enjoyed the rest of the offerings. I now love it and try not to miss. 2 key things to remember about Cape May 1) if you live on the East Coast and/or have regular access to top-grade, fresh seafood (I don't) then you won't be impressed. For me, crab legs, clams, mussels, etc are a wonderful treat that I rarely get so Cape May is a find 2) because I had that one poor experience years ago, I'm sympathetic with those who had the same past experience. Its an $ buffet and once burned . . . But I gave it another shot and was very pleasantly surprised with the significantly improved quality. ps there is a strong fishy smell to the place. Probably can't be helped because of the food simmering away on the buffet. My noise gets used to it after a few mins. Others can't get past the smell.

We loved cape may. It was a fun buffet with lots of seafood options. The food was good for buffer options.

We've never had a problem with the crab legs. Always great taste, and the meat never sticks to the shells. Highly recommended. My wife even suggested hitting it TWICE on our upcoming trip :)

the selection of salads and soup and other items help round out the yummy choices. We also grew tired of CP and now do Cape May every April

We've eaten at Cape May for dinner 3 times and always found there to be lots of food. The "menu" online is just a fraction of what is really there because it changes up some, they don't print every single buffet item on the online menu.

We really like Cape May are are planning a 4th trip there in November.

Hope this helps:

. . . dessert:. Pastries
.
NOTE1: Average food quality. This is not the quality of a New England seafood buffet.
They do have crab legs, but they are smaller legs and the meat is REALLY stingy. Not
high in quality, but will do in a pinch, as will the clams or mussels. Clams are tasty,
but are smaller Littleneck Clams. Face it, you can't make big Disney profits if you use
high quality crab, clams, mussels on a medium-priced buffet. Since the rehab, the ribs
are gone and as are the key lime tarts. The Oreo Bon Bons and Peanut Butter Cookies
are also gone from the buffet, but can be purchased in the resort's gift shop. Another
way to cut costs, they have replaced the corn-on-the-cob with niblets. Absolutely pitiful
way to cut things !
.
NOTE2: People were used to running to the buffet when crab legs were replenished; loading
the plates sky-high; gorging themselves at their table; leaving uneaten plated legs. Now,
your SERVER brings a bucket of legs to your table, as they are not on the buffet. This cuts
down the waste. It also cuts down the amount you can take & eat, because Cape May is known
for their inattentive and slow service. If you don't get it, you can't eat it. Your appetite
erodes while eating other items and fewer expensive crab legs are consumed. When we tried
the new service, our legs were still of average or below average in quality and they were
service slightly warm instead of steaming hot.
.
NOTE3: The new rotation for the "fried food" daily specials:
. . . Everyday: Paella, Snow Crab Legs, Steamed Clams, Herb-Marinated Salmon
. . . Sun & Wed: Fried Shrimp
. . . Mon & Thu & Sat: Fried Clam strips
. . . Tue & Fri: Fried Calamari
. . . Sat: Chef's Choice
. . . Sometimes: Short Ribs appear, but on a random basis as a Chef's Choice
.
NOTE:
The snow crab legs are small and not too meaty.
To many, they are a disappointment.
Let's face it, one can't serve unlimited crab legs of good quality for the Relatively Small Disney price.

I love Cape May dinner. We have been several times over the past 10 years and it has always been consistently good. I don't even eat seafood, lol, but the salads are wonderful and lots of veggie sides. There are many other options than seafood. I have never seen people "running" to the buffet for the crab legs. And never has the server brought them to the table for us. They were always plentiful on the bar. IMO the atmosphere is much more laid back than some of the other buffets at Disney, not chaotic at all.

Are these your personal ratings or do they come from overall reviews from others?

We are not too picky about our food choices, so I think with so many of you saying that you like it, we will give it a try. We like the likes of Teppan Edo, Boma, Liberty Tree Tavern, and can tolerate CP. Sounds like for the average food connoisseur (like my family), we will do just fine!

DW and I love Cape May cafe with one important restriction. We have to get early reservations. We have found if we get in before 5:45pm or so, we have really enjoyed the food but later meals have been bleh. Im not sure if it is how fast they are cooking to keep the buffet filled or what but we enjoy it much more when we get their early or shortly after open.
