Cape May or 'Ohana breakfast??

My parents will be tagging along with us for a couple of days, and we'd like to have a non-park breakfast the day they depart. I've narrowed it down between Ohana or Cape May....help me decide! We'll most likely head to DHS afterwards, so I like the thought of taking the boat from Cape May. But we'll also be eating at TH on our AK day, and the characters are similar.

Keep in mind that this is just my opinion, and everyone has one. We have done both and I far prefer Cape May Cafe. We did the O'hana breakfast when we stayed at the Poly. The character interaction was good, but the food was just so-so. The place was very crowded. Having the food served family style has advantages and disadvantages. It's nice not to have to get up to go to the buffet, but it's not so nice when you need more food and it takes forever for your server to bring it.

We've been to Cape May twice for breakfast. While the place was still full, the feel was so much more relaxed. The characters are in their beachwear, which is cute. The food was very fresh and tasty. In addition to the usual breakfast fare, they had make your own yogurt parfaits, which I really liked. We were staying at the BCV both times, so it was very convenient. Last fall, we actually gave up breakfast ressies at Chef Mickey's to eat at Cape May. We didn't see the need to traipse over to the Contemporary when we had a great breakfast at our own resort!

Never been to Cape May but here's my thoughts about Ohana and DHS.

Went to the Ohana breakfast twice in 2009. I loved, loved the food. It is standard breakfast food - eggs, bacon, sausage, mickey waffles, etc.. but so good. The warm breakfast breads are to die for.... one is cinnamon raisin and the other is pineapple-coconut - both were the best breads I've had in my life. Spending time with Mickey, Pluto, Lilo and Stitch was great too. Characters were fun, not in a rush, and came to our table several times. As the previous poster said, family style is more enjoyable because you don't have to get your own food or have to rush back because the characters are coming.... We had this happen at Donald's Safari breakfast at Tusker House -- funny though... our extremely attentive waiter there saw that Goofy was coming, and told me to just sit and relax with my son, that he would go to the buffet and let my wife know.

The boat ride to DHS is slow. I'd pick a different day for DHS when you can get to the park at rope drop when it first opens... or if you are staying on Disney property, then when there is morning extra magic hours. This park gets busy. Get there much later in the morning and Toy Story passes could be gone or for very late in the day. We got there early for extra magic hours and got on right away and quickly racked up fast passes to go 2 more times later in the same day.

We love Cape May Cafe for breakfast (it is our second favorite after Crystal Palace). They have a great variety of food and the character interaction is wonderful (the characters often end up at the table twice). We've not been to Ohana for two reasons: 1) I am not fond of family style--I rather pick out the food I like and not be served only certain items; and 2) sorry Stitch fans -- but we don't like Stitch at all. So my vote goes to Cape May Cafe.

We've done both. Ohana with Lilo, Stitch, Pluto & Mickey. Cape May with Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto. They are both terrific breakfasts. Cape May is a buffet and Ohana is served Family Style, if that makes a difference. We love the juice at Ohana. Cape May was even more relaxed than Ohana and we had great character time. If our plan was to go to DHS after breakfast, then I would pick Cape May. It would be a nice breakfast followed by a nice boat ride.

We were thinking about Ohana after my older son watched Lilo & Stitch and seemed to like it...but that was a while ago and he never really got into it like he has gotten into other Disney movies. Plus, when I looked at the menu the variety just was not there as it is at other character breakfasts which are buffets. I know that it is harder to have such variety at a family-style meal because there is only so much room on the table, but we do prefer to go to a character buffet and choose other things that are not at Ohana.

We are going to Cape May for breakfast on the last morning of our trip. We're staying at Boardwalk Villas and it is very convenient, plus we like to end the trip with a character breakfast just before hitting the road. It makes going to sleep the last night a little less depressing too! I've never been to Cape May but have only heard really great things about it!

I vote for Cape May We've eaten at both and the last one we ate at was Ohana. We were staying at the Poly and after breakfast, my dh said, "Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not the exact same food we've been eating every morning for breakfast in Capt. Cook's (quick service), except it's costing over $100 more?! What could I say - the man was right! So maybe that influenced us a little - but it was exactly the same food that you can get at any of the resorts quick service breakfasts. Cape May has a greater selection, including lots of fresh fruit.

OP - I've done 'Ohana Character Breakfast 3 x....
We've stayed at BC...and eaten at Cape May DINNER 3x....

AND....I recommend 'Ohana Character Breakfast.... JUST LOVE the interaction and games with the kids...parade with mariachi...food ...prefer family dining... etc...

We loved Ohana's breads and juice. I think location in relation to where you are staying or going to is a big considereation. You do not want to feel rushed at breakfast.

Depends on what time you plan to do Cape May. You can take a boat and enter Epcot from the Countries entrance. So, if you want to do Epcot in AM and Cape May for late breakfast, then you would bus to Epcot and take exit at the countries. Or, you could schedule an early breakfast at Cape May, but would have to take a bus from AS to a resort or DTD and a bus to Beach Club.

We have done both Cape May and Ohana... Ohana was a must do again on this next trip, and Cape May wasn't even thought about. I am not a huge fan of buffets especially because I feel that we are constantly interrupted with people getting up to go and get food. When we went to Cape May, the server was nice, but have ZERO personality. It was like I was at IHOP. And that is the feel I had from it.

When I went to Ohana, the juice was wonderful, the restaurant itself felt more upscale and the view was absolutely fabulous. Plus, watching the kids dance around the restaurant with Stitch was quite entertaining.

Either way you go, hope you have a great trip!

I have never been to Cape May but I have been to Ohana's breakfast multiple times and love it. Stitch is my favorite character, the food is great, and it's a lot of fun for kids. I'm taking my girlfriend to Disney for her first trip this August and one of the first restaurant reservation that I made was Ohana's. In my opinion this is a must go

My vote is for Ohana's. We just had breakfast there a week ago for the first time. The food was delicious, we had fantastic service (food and drinks were served quickly), and the character interaction could not be beat. The characters spent quite a bit of time at each table and were so funny! I am not a fan of buffets - never do them - so I can't speak to Cape May. However, an advantage to family style over the buffet is that you don't have to worry about missing the characters while you go up to get food. We had a great experience at Ohana's - it exceeded my expectations and will be a "must-do" on all future trips!

Just to add....my daughter is not familiar with Lilo and Stitch (boys are still too young to know the difference). When I booked the breakfast, it was primarily for Mickey and Pluto. I know Lilo and Stitch are not the most popular characters....but they were both great! Stitch was so funny and playful - we have some great photos and video. Lilo was so sweet too. I have a newfound love for Lilo and Stitch!!
