Cape May for Dinner with a shellfish allergy?

I'm wondering if Cape May buffet for dinner would be doable. I have an allergy to shellfish. Is there enough to eat to make it worth doing? Is the smell of shellfish strong? Has anyone else ever dined there with an allergy to shellfish?

Thanks for the help.

I also have a shellfish allergy and would not dare eat at Cape May for fear of a reaction. I think the risk of cross contamination is far too great. The steam from cooking alone may cause a reaction.

Yeah. That's what I'm thinking. I know my allergies are pretty bad. I was just wondering. Maybe we will do breakfast there instead. someone suggested it to me, but I'm nervous about giving it a try.....So we will probably skip it. It's not worth the risk....

While Disney does a great job, I would not do Cape May with an allergy. Even Disney can't manage all cross-contamination from other guests. And I suspect people with buttery crab fingers are touching the furniture, which even wiped down, would impact breakfast.

I wouldn't eat there at all. Heck, I was nervous walking by the place. Tusker House in AK is supposed to have a great breakfast if you are looking for buffet and characters. It's one of my faves for lunch/dinner, but I've never done breakfast there.

I'd also put in a plug for Trattoria al Forno. If the breakfast stays the same when it changes over to a character breakfast it would be a solid bet.

I'm allergic to shellfish as well and have never had an issue eating at Cape May Café for the breakfast buffet! I've never been there for dinner though.

When something is so deeply a part of a kitchen, I prefer not to trust allergy protocols in the kitchen or dining room. A friend who had a peanut allergy taught me the value of caution.

I suspect Trattoria's menu will change for the new breakfast, because if it doesn't Disney is signing up for a hot mess that will make BOG look well-run and sensible. But if the food quality stays high, it should be a solid choice.

I have a shellfish allergy, although it sounds milder than yours. I don't enjoy the smell, but it doesn't make me sick either. I have eaten there for both breakfast and dinner and have never had a problem. I only went because I was with someone that really wanted to experience it. The chef brought me some food that I could eat and walked me through the buffet to make sure I knew what was safe (which is pretty obvious)
Breakfast was delicious.

My mom has a severe shellfish allergy, and we usually stay at Beah Club. She was advised not to eat at Cape May by the chef. He himself warned of the risk of cross contamination, as careful as they are. She has eaten breakfast with no issues, but wouldn't try eating dinner there.

It is basically a 'clam bake', but also steamed crabs and shrimp, so no, with a serious allergy to shell fish would never dare to eat there. There are plenty of non-seafood dishes available, but the touch and smell of things is seafood. Handling the serving utensils that others have touched, would be enough alone to cause an issue.

Yeah, I have pretty much ruled them out for dinner. I'm still considering them for breakfast!! Thank you for telling me that even the chef there said no. That says a lot to me!! Thanks for your reply...

Yeah. I've decided that we won't do dinner there. Just too many risks involved. Thank you for your reply!!
