I am planning a sweet 16 birthday trip for my daughter, her best friend, myself, and my mother for July of next year. My daughter is a huge crab leg lover and she'd love to try mussels and clams but is afraid that she won't like them. What better place to see if she likes them than at a buffet. I would like to get opinions on the seafood buffet at Cape May. Is it worth the cost? :confused3
I've seen the menu and there is plenty available to suit all of our tastes and likes. We will be dining on Sunday to make sure that the crab legs are on the menu. Is just under $200 to much to spend on dinner for 4,:scared1: or should I just not worry about the cost and enjoy the occasion and the memories that will be made. :wizard:

Snow crab legs are on the buffet every day now. Not as good as king crab, but considering it's a buffet they're not bad. Steamers, mussels, usually a baked fish (varies), a pasta dish with shrimp or similar (varies), yummy fried shrimp on Mon-Wed-Fri, I hear fried calamari or other fried goodness on other days, as well as cold peel & eat shrimp and a varied and good salad/side selection. A good hearty soup too (varies). Considering the cost of decent quality seafood the price is not outrageous. Small buckets for the shellfish and discards are cute and warm drawn butter, yum! The oreo bon-bons are very good, other desserts OK. It's not gourmet or fancy seafood, but on our must do list every trip.

The chicken and meat selections are OK, not spectacular and offered for the non seafood lovers. I love seafood so avoid most of the meat choices now and go for another helping of crab legs or shrimp!

The items are served in small batches so the seafood gets constantly replentished. Go and enjoy, it's really something different!

It's a must-do for us and I think it sounds great for you as well. Yes, a buffet is a perfect place for your DD to try the things she's unsure about. I can tell you that, foolishly, the only place I had tried mussels before was on a CHINESE buffet, and I thought I hated them. At Cape May, they were fabulous!

I say go for it and enjoy. I'm betting you won't regret it!:cool1:

Another Cape May dinner fan. I agree that a buffet is a fabulous way to sample multiple new foods. On the seafood portion of the buffet you do always have endless crab legs. The seafood choice that rotates is fried calamari (Tues & Thurs), fried fish fillet (Sun & Fri), and fried shrimp (Mon, Wed, & Sat).

The only caution I would give is that the day we went one of the shellfish options - I *think* it was the mussels but don't remember for sure - was cooked with chorizo, which is a spicy sausage meat. I prefer my mussels in butter and garlic or a white wine sauce and really did not love the chorizo broth. So even though your DD can try everything here, a different preparation somewhere else may have a completely different flavor.

Price is what it is; for a seafood buffet, I don't think it's terribly out of line.

Thanks for the replies it sounds great! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! I will definetly book this ressie at the 160 day mark!:thumbsup2
