Can't wait to see inside the castle!!!

The castle was closed on our one and only trip to DL in 2007. I am so excited to walk through and see the Sleeping Beauty scenes! I had watched an old video on youtube before our last trip and pined to get to see it for myself!

Have you been? Is it just lovely?? Did you take any pictures that you can post? I would love to see them!

Do they have music playing in the background?

I can't wait! Three more weeks, and I will be sleeping at the DLH!

If it is not too busy/crowded I really recommend staying in there for a while to take advantage of seeing all that is to offer at each stop along the walkthrough. For example, there's a section in the walkthrough of Maleficent as the dragon breathing down fire onto the forest of thorns is animated as a scene and I had always passed by it like it was a short snippet of animation. I was wowed by how cool it was! I only have a couple of pictures of the walkthrough & they're not very good.

I wouldn't put too much hype in it, but my daughters did like it. There's a small window that has guards walking back and forth. Keep watching them, you'll get a nice surprise. I walked by it the first two times but when we watched it for awhile, we had a good laugh.

 

[Sleepless Knight]

While not a spectacular E-ticket, it is a nice little walk through the castle that tells the story of Sleeping Beauty. It originally opened in 1957 to promote the 1959 release of Sleeping Beauty and featured artwork from some of the Disney Studios animators to work on the film itself. Because the film was not yet finished, there were some elements in the original walkthrough that did not appear in the finished film, nor was the story chronological. The original walkthrough also featured the pioneering use of Disneyland visual effects, which would later be done on a much larger scale in POTC and Haunted Mansion.

The walkthrough was changed in the late 1970s to tell the story of the film more chronologically and used dolls (think Emporium window displays) in place of artwork. This version was open until October 2001 when the walkthrough was closed. It would remain closed until December 2008 when it was reopened and in some ways restored to the 1957 version with some new bells and whistles thrown in to capture some of the more memorable sequences from the film.

Since Sleeping Beauty is my favorite film, I'm probably biased, but I really enjoy it. It's a simple Disney pleasure. While not on the scale or scope of a ride, it's a well done attraction that can be charming to walk through. And it's certainly a much easier (and far less expensive) way to walk inside a Disney castle than a character meal at Cinderella's Royal Table

I was SO CONFUSED about this because I vaguely remembered as a little girl walking through the castle and seeing Sleeping Beauty. But then going back as a young adult, I couldn't figure out how to get in there! I thought I must have imagined the whole thing!!! I didn't think about it again until reading on the boards last year that it was being reopened and I was like OMG it WAS real!!!!! So Im excited to walk through it again!!!
