I'll be heading down with the family next Tuesday (6/23) for a week long trip (6/23-6/29). We're doing a split stay at SSR and AKV CL!

I've mainly lurked on these boards and not really posted here because we go so frequently. But this will be the first longer trip we are taking in a little over a year. The cast of characters includes me (turning 23), DBro (12) and DMom and DDad. While my brother and dad are both kind of picky and real meat and potatoes type guys my mom and I are quite adventurous when it comes to food!

So here's the ressies we have lined up for next week.

6/23 - Nothing today, but we think we're going to do dinner at Perkins offsite since we just plan to hang out around DTD and the hotel the first day. There may even be some Goofy's Candy Company pics... ;)

6/24 - Maybe some lunch at BB and we have dinner at The Wave. I should probably mention that since we have a villa, we don't really "eat out" as often as a lot of people. That and we're not big snackers.

6/25 - Lunch at Tony's and possibly CS (Sunshine Seasons?) for dinner.

6/26 - Spoodles (!) for dinner. I also want to stop and get a cheesy filled pretzel at MGM and something tasty to drink at the Tune In Lounge :drinking1.

6/27 - Our day to spend at the hotel (AKL) Since we are staying club level there will be plenty of reviews of the food and drink to be found here! :rotfl2:

6/28 - We booked the Sunrise Safari so there will be breakfast reviews for after that and then we have dinner at Ohana!

6/29 - Most likely either Wolfgang Puck Express or Earl of Sandwich before we head on home.

So I plan on checking in every night to list my reviews of where we eat and check and see if anyone has any recommendations for the next days menus!

Index of Reviews:

6/23 - Goofy's Candy Company

6/24 - The Wave

6/25 - Blizzard Beach - The Polar Pub

Let's hope for lower crowds and decent weather as we will be there (and at SSR) for almost the same time! :thumbsup2

Jill

Just checked with the schedule and we will definitely be hitting up Goofy's Candy Company on Tuesday! I can hear those make your own snacks calling my name!

What's eveyone's favorite treat to make?

Just checked into SSR and will be heading into DTD shortly. First stop Goofy's Candy Company...pics will soon follow! Hmm, didn't there used to be a drooling smiley?

I may also post some pics or such from my Twitter while on the go: JuneBugFL

YAY! Glad you arrived safe and sound, get some yummy treats for all of us to drool over!

Congrats on getting there - can't wait for the reviews!

Here's the pics from Goofys! I got pretzel rods...all dipped in dark chocolate and drizzled with milk chocolate. One was rolled in sprinkles, one in peanut butter chips, and another in Oreo crumbs. I ended up getting an extra pretzel rod for free! I don't know if it was because of my birthday button or because one of the pretzel rods "handles" broke off. :confused3 So there are 2 of the peanut butter chip ones! Yay!

And what it cost...:rolleyes1

My mom got a peanut butter filled cookie dipped in dark chocolate, rolled in crushed peanuts and mini M&Ms and then drizzled in milk chocolate.

My brother got a vanilla cream filled cookie dipped in milk chocolate then rolled in Oreo crumbs and drizzled in white chocolate and caramel.

My mom and bro both chowed down on theirs before I could get any pics of them, and I could only eat one pretzel rod, so I still have 3 left! :cool1:

The peanut butter was soooo good. I've been eating "good" and haven't had anything sweet or yummy for about 3 months and this was heaven! :cloud9: It's a good thing that I worked out this morning! I'll have to ration the rest over the next week or so.

I had a small soft-sided cooler with me with our drinks, so the rest of my pretzels went in there and even after another 1.5 hours at DTD they didn't melt, so now they're in the freezer firming up again.

Tonight we're going to head over to Perkin's in the Crossroads shopping center for dinner since we miss it from when we lived in NJ :cloud9: I don't think that one really needs a review and I probably won't take pictures, but if anyone's interested I can post about what we ate.

We're also going over to Epcot for EMH tonight (till midnight woohoo!) and I may get a Grey Goose slushie if the kiosk is open. I considered getting something at the Margarita Bar at DTD but it was just too hot walking around to add alcohol to the mix. So maybe once it's cooler tonight I can sample some beverages of the adult variety!

cant wait for more cuz i have the itch!!! My DH and I will be there on Sunday as well for our honeymoon, and we are also doing dinner at Ohanas and our ressie is for 8:15. Maybe we will cross paths!!:cool1:

Yay! Count me in! Can't wait for your reviews and pictures! We are staying AKL CL in Nov/Dec so I am looking forward to the pictures/reviews of CL!

Yay... I'm in... we arrive on Sunday Morning.

Hope it isn't too hot.

It's been pretty steamy, but not unbearable. However, I live in FL and am quite used to it. I actually wore a light sweatshirt last night in Epcot because the rain cooled it off quite a bit.

Maybe we will! And congrats on your marriage! :cool1:

Ohh...there will be plenty of reviews of the lounge and all of the offerings

I didn't get any adult beverages last night because we got to the park later than we wanted and didn't wander anywhere I could have found something. There was also a change in plans for today, instead of Blizzard Beach we're going to MGM so that we can go to Welcome Home Wednesdays for DVC at the Boardwalk. Maybe I can pick up a cocktail there since its at Atlantic Dance Hall

We're still on for The Wave tonight and I can practically hear that lamb calling my name...:woohoo:

We had ADRs for 6:50 at The Wave tonight and ended up at the Contemporary around 6pm.

We went up to the concourse and wandered through the shops for awhile and eventually checked in at 6:30. We were given a buzzer and sat in the lounge.

Only 5 minutes or so later we were called in and seated. I knew I wanted a drink but wasn't sure what I wanted and nothing really appealed on the menu. I knew I was getting the lamb so I asked our server (Leighford...called Lee) for a recommendation for a martini to pair with my dinner. He wrote it down and asked the bartender. I ended up with a regular vodka martini (called a Belvedere).

For the rest of the drinks my mom got unsweet tea, my brother got Sprite and my dad got a chocolate shake. My brother also ended up getting a chocolate shake for his dessert so there is only one pic of that.

100_0917.jpg

My dad and brother (and mom she snuck a taste) said that it was very chocolate-y without being too sweet and was probably one of the best shakes that they have had on property.

Here is the bread service...a whole grain bread with butter and smoked salt.

100_0915.jpg

My dad said, and I quote, "that's some funky bread!" He liked it very much, but those were the first words out of his mouth. My bro said it was like eating birdseed in his bread (keep in mind he is 12 y/o), and my mom said it was very good.

My brother and mom both got appetizers. Bro went with the Applewood smoked bacon corn chowder:

100_0910.jpg

It came with a jalapeno corn bread. He said it was a 6/10 and that he wishes there was more bacon in the soup. There only seemed to be bacon on the top as a garnish.

Mom had the avocado citrus salad and she gave it a 6.5-7/10. She said she would have liked a little more citrus flavor since it was even in the name of the dish.

100_0913.jpg

For main entree I had the lamb shank with bulgur wheat-lentil stew and red wine sauce. Now I don't get to eat lamb very often because I am the only one in my house who eats it and my mom even hates the smell of it cooking so I can't even cook it at my house! :scared1:

This was very good, but not as good as the lamb shank that I had at Morocco a few weeks ago. The stew by itself and the lamb by itself were both very good, but combining the two in one bite with some of the red wine sauce was really amazing. I give it an 8/10 because it was a little fatty and I had to trim it somewhat in order to eat it.

My dad ordered the grilled marinated flank steak, extra well done, without the guacamole. His came out with....you guessed it guacamole. So his got sent back and came out rather quickly again. He said it was very tender given the cut of the meat and for how well done he ordered it. He liked the veggies that came with it (mostly carrots) but did not like the chimichurri sauce. I had to agree on the sauce, it was not like a normal chimichurri. He said it tasted too sour to him, and while I didn't get sour from it, it was not a traditional chimichurri. He gave it a 8/10 (some points subtracted for the guacamole)

100_0923.jpg

My brother ordered the braised chicken pot pie. I had warned him before he ordered that it was a "deconstructed" pot pie and he was ok with that. When it came he noted that the pastry top was like ciabatta bread rather than what he was expecting, but that it held up well in the sauce. It looked like flaky puff pastry to me, but what do I know! :confused3 He also noted that there was both white and dark meat chicken. He did not like how thin the sauce was and so gave it a 6/10. I think he was also a little turned off that the chicken was on the bone.

My mom ordered that cinnamon rubbed pork loin. She said the outside was a little well done for her, but that the meat was good, and she would have liked more of the applesauce that it came with for the amount of meat on the plate. Rated a 7.5/10.

100_0921.jpg

Now onto the good stuff....dessert!

As I said before bro just got a chocolate shake. I got the no sugar added option - Chocolate-Mint Mousse, Fresh Berries with Panna Cotta, and Vanilla Bean Créme Brulée. I would say my favorite out of those was the brulee. It was creamy and not too sweet and perfectly caramelized on the top. Next was the panna cotta, nice and light and great vanilla flavor, and then the chocolate mousse. The mousse was a little firmer than I am used to and tasted like an Andes mint, very good, but my 3rd out of the three I ate. It was also free (yay birthday button!), and had 2 candles in it! :cool1:

100_0924.jpg

My mom got the creamy indulgence option - Cheesecake with Raspberry Coulis, Coconut Panna Cotta with Passion Fruit Drizzle, and Chocolate-Passion Fruit Mousse with Pecan-Olive Brittle. She said the cheesecake was average but good, the panna cotta was a little thin and the mousse was good.

100_0926.jpg

My dad got the sorbet trio - Lemon-basil, Pineapple and Strawberry. He liked them all and didn't have much else to say on the matter.

100_0925.jpg

Overall it was a very nice meal, and my mom and I would go back , but my dad feels there wasn't enough variety on the menu for him. He said if he were to go there again he would probably just get the flank steak again. :confused3
