Can't find a Halloween costume for my DD!

I need help!

My DD is in pre-teen size 14/16 (XL) and I can't find a costume for her anywhere. Kids' sizes only go up to 8/10 (L) and adult sizes are way too big. I've found a few teen costumes, but they're sleazy (think French maid type sleazy).

She'd love to be Mulan or any Disney princess. Or just anything girly with a gown. I found some "husky" sizes at Toys r Us, but they're all sold out.

Why not hit a second-hand shop and try to make something from what you find? This year DD12 is going to be Cinderella in rags (DD5 is Cinderella in her ball gown)

Last year they went as a queen and princess - I had made up DD-then-11 a purple satin dress with cheap material as a test before making her a real dress (with the $$$ material!) when she was a junior bridesmaid last year. We glue-gunned fake jewels to the dress, piled on the fake jewelery and a blue ribbon sash and I made a cape out of a square yard of velvet and a thin strip of fake fur - she looked fab!

The year before that she was an Eqyptian, sewn from a pattern. Do you sew? My favorite things to sew are halloween costumes because I never have to work about them being perfect.

Have you considered a "homemade" costume? Familyfun.com has lots of neat ideas. When my DD was in 6th grade (also wore a 14), she was a bag of jelly beans......my 5th grade DD last year was a box of puppies. I'm not that crafty and both were very easy to do.

my dd 11 is also in the 6th grade and wants to be Tink for halloween, well............we can't find anything to fit her that's not sleazy.......... so were gonna try to make something! we are having to get her outfits from limited too this year because we can't find stuff to fit !

I can't sew at all. And I'm extremely limited on time, so I was hoping to just buy something online with no work involved, especially considering she wants a princess gown.

Although, now that I think about it... my prom gown was cocktail length with a big full skirt (think 80s style ) and I bet I could find someone to take it in! Or even just a few safety pins. Then I could just get her some accessories for it, and maybe some sort of lacy scarf or something to fill in the chest area. She could go as a prom queen.

What's up with that anyway? I've been to several specialty costume shops (even a rental place!) and they just stop at that size and go right on to adult sizes. Don't they think there's a market for pre-teen costumes? I had an owner of one of the stores telling me even he has the same problem getting something for his daughter and just can't find those sizes.

You might want to try lillianvernon.com, they have some bigger sizes there. I got ds's his there. I got him a 12/14.

Do you have a Party City? If not you can order off their web-site. One of them did have a Mulan type outfit. I think it was Party city.

Would you be interested in American Girl costumes? If you go to American Girl.com they have some Halloweeen costumes and their size L is a 14 - 16. They have a Grecian Princess costume that's cute. It is rather expensive, $49. I ordered the Flapper costume for my DD. Good Luck!
