My family (Me, DH, DS5) is planning a DL trip from August 21-27 this year and I can't decide on where to stay. Can anyone give me any insight into the following motels? Distance, pool, anything else you think I should know. Pics would be great. Thanks!
Best Western Plus Park Place
Best Western Plus Anaheim
Del Sol Inn Anaheim
Candy Cane Inn
Park Vue Inn

I think everyone has their preferences and things to think about are what’s most important for you and your family....being close to the gate? Free parking? Nice pool? Free breakfast? If you plan to spend time at the motel to swim and hang out, then you’ll want to find one with a nice pool, etc. of the ones you listed, I’ve only stayed at Park Vue. The location can’t be beat, it’s at the crosswalk right at the entrance. Other perks are free parking and breakfast. Pool is clean but no slides or anything special or little kids. We spend most of our time at the parks so it works for us. At the end of a long day with tired feet, it’s so nice to not walk any further to the further motels. I think they’re all pretty similar so it may come down to price.

Of the ones you've listed the only one I've stayed at is Del Sol. The location was great and the room was spacious (we were put in a multi-room suite despite just having a reservation for a standard room), but it was definitely just a motel room. Nothing really noteworthy about it. But that's what we wanted, an affordable motel room with a great location. From what I've heard, that's basically what you get with any of those motels right across the street. The only thing I remember not liking about it is that we were not allowed to leave our car there after checkout even after we offered to pay for an extra day of parking because they have capacity issues. So on checkout day instead of being able to skip across the street to the parks we had to go re-park at Toy Story. But I wouldn't be surprised if the other motels in the vicinity have the same rule since parking space is so limited around there.

When I start to plan a trip, I basically make a choice if we're going to focus on location or quality. If we're going to stay at a motel across the street we don't plan on using the pool or hanging out in the room, so basically price is the deciding factor. If we want a more leisurely trip we stay somewhere nicer but farther away, and just do partial days in the parks.

We are staying at the Best Western Park Place in September. It will be our first time. We have stayed at the Fairfield Inn and it was nice.

If price is important but the distance not a problem, there's also the Staybridge Suites Anaheim Resort, on S Manchester Av. Quite a bit cheaper in terms of a per-night rate, there is a good pool at the hotel too.

They share an ART stop with the Holiday Inn that's in the same area.

It is possible to walk fairly safely to DLR and DCA from this area, even at night there are still lots of people around, visiting the Bubba Gump restaurant and other places on W Katella Av.

Though I guess if you have young children you'll either need to take strollers to wheel them in or use the ART service.

Either BWPPI or PVI would be a good choice. All hotels seem close when you are walking TO THE PARKS, but the second you start the walk BACK TO THE HOTEL, your feet will remind you of how far the hotel is. So, I suggest to book quickly and enjoy your stay! I know the breakfast wouldn't be used with my kids because they do not like eating the first couple of hours after they wake up, plus, when we first took them to Disneyland, they were so excited to get into the parks, it was impossible to get them to eat anything except a quick Gogurt in the hotel room while getting dressed. So, I carried granola bars, nuts, Nutra Grain Bars, Goldfish, etc, for them to snack on in lines, so after a couple of hours, we would take a break and have breakfast (Galactic Grill in Tomorrowland or Flo's in Cars Land) both had good fruit platters. Sadly, only Flo's has the fruit platter. Galactic Grill switched it to a fruit cup or something like that. Have fun planning!

Disney Tourist Blog has reviewed a bunch of the local hotels/motels. Granted it’s the viewpoint of a married guy with no kiddos, so take it with a grain of salt. Here is the link if it’s allowed on the DISboards:

This article was really helpful to me and really sold me on the Courtyard. It's right behind all the older hotels on Harbor but this one is new and has a great pool. The price really isn't that bad in the offseason.

For kids pool I think you should add Hojo to your list! Fantastic kids pool area! Mine love it! Walking distance, free parking, hotel style buildings with interior corridors.
