cans of soda - suitcase - airport

Has anyone had trouble with their luggage at the airport because they put cans of soda in their suitcase?

I did the first time I cruised. A can exploded in my luggage. Yuckie

I recommend using a zip lock bag if you want to bring soda.

It doesn't seem like a suitcase full of sticky clothes would be worth bringing my own soda, imo.... Maybe you could just buy some once you are in FL and carry it on.

i think cans are risky because anything with a sharp edge can puncture them. i put six of the smaller (20 oz) plastic bottles in my suitcase and had no problems. i did put them inside of a garbage bag, just in case...

If you do plan to take soda onboard, I would recommend reserving a suitcase just for it. That way, you will have a little extra peace of mind in case of leakage

My brother-in-law did this on a trip to Vegas, only he brought beer cans . I don't know how much he brought, but about 5 cans exploded. What a smell when the bellhop brought up his bags! I don't see ziplock bags doing much good, when air pressure is involved.
