$949.99

Comes with lens kits

EF-S 18-55 mm f3.5-5.7

EF-S 55-250 mm f5.6

I'm at Costco now

OK, I'm home. here is the rest. Texting on the internet with an iphone ain't my cup of tea.

It has a $100 instant rebate the two kit lens, a Rebel camera bag and 4 gig card.

I guess I wouldn't consider it but I have quite a few EF lenses from the EOS days and a canon flash that I bought when I got my G1.

Again, the price you said is ok. It's a pretty reasonable price especially for a retail store. If it is what you wanted then its a good buy.

I think my Costco has the Canon XSi with those lenses in a kit for about $749.00. So, the question is whether HD video and the few other "steps" from the XSi to the T1 is worth $200 since the lenses are the same.

One nice thing is if I didn't like the camera I could return it back to COSTCO within 90 days with no restocking charge.

Agreed....this is what makes it worth buying from Costco, IMHO.

Are the lenses IS lenses?

For me personally I will never go back to non IS lenses, so that would be important to note for me.

PS: I just went to their website and I am very surprised to not see the Canon DSLRs there anymore. They used to have a good variety......Rebel, G10, 40D......now only P&S cameras. Odd.

When I was there a week ago they were out of stock and was offering it with only one kit lens. This is a new stock so they must still be planning on selling them. They had about 30 in stock.

I agree- I'd look at if the 55-250 is IS or not. I personally wouldn't buy the T1i unless I wanted the video (which I don't right now). If that's important to you- get the T1i, if not, go with the XSi.

OP- Also depends on how many lenses you have and how experienced you are with photography and your style. When I bought my XSi I got only the kit lens because I didn't know much about it and wanted to see what kinds of lenses I'd want first. I personally wouldn't want the 55-250. If you have experience (you said you had a few lenses), then decide if a) you want video and b) this lens pair is one you'd get some use out of.

If it were me I'd buy the XSi with kit lens like I bought a year ago ;) If I wanted video and this lens combo, I'd buy this deal probably.

I think it's safe to assume the 55-250 lens is IS, Canon doesn't make a non-IS version at this focal length and only one similar would be the EF 55-200, which I think has been discontinued. The 55-250 IS lens is a great lens for the money though!

That price is pretty decent. I had this exact kit, from costco, but ended up returning it after amonth and upgraded to the 7D after I realized what the T1i lacked that i needed. The T1i is a nice small light weight intro SLR. The 2 kit lenses are honestly GOOD lenses. I bought the 55-250 cause it works so well. its the new IS that is 3 stops i believe, and its pretty sharp and its small. The IS 18-55 is a decent starter lens. I have no problem recommending this package to people looking to get into the SLR world.

I think the other question is: do you think you might want to upgrade soon? Based on the PP comment I think I would add that if you really would rather have a 40D or something of that nature later, it might be better worth the $$ to wait and save up the extra $250 or so and get the better camera IF you think you would prefer it.

I just know from experience that we have learned not to settle for "good enough" right now as we end up spending more in the long run doing that!

This was my problem with the T1i when I had, i very quickly learned its limits on some things, and knew i would never be happy, so I quickly returned it, and bought a 7D, something that will keep my happy for atleast 2 years.. The high ISO capability of it is AMAZING, but its pricey tag is HUGE as well...

Just to show, this is ISO 3200, hand held at 250mm, taken at 6pm, sun had already set, no flash. No Post Processing at all,

The Canon 40D was discontinued six months ago, the next step up would be the more expensive 7D or 50D. The T1i/500D seems like it has plenty of features to last a while.

Ok, well, whatever the higher quality one is that he/she might eventually need. I think my point was still made. If the OP isn't interested in upgrading that is fine, I just wanted to point out something we had learned along the way.

Thanks.. The camera is WAY WAY more capable than me at this point. UPS had just dropped it off, and i wanted to go get some quick pics. I have spent the last 3 hours micro-adjusting all my lenses, and it had made a BIG diffrence. My 50 1.8 had always front focused, and i adjusted it to +10, and its tack sharp now

This is over a 100% crop, i was focused on one of his center teeth.

I really do love the 7D, and i am glad I do for what it cost.. Thank god for Best Buy and 18month no-interest and 10% off coupon :)

Sigh.....I am still trying to learn my 40D that I got about a year ago. Just venturing off the green square is scary for me! :rotfl2:
