I am contemplating how to blow the upcoming tax rebate congress is about to approve and am leaning towards doing my part to stimulate the economy by sending all of of it to Canon to upgrade to a better DSLR.
I have been using a Pentax ist*DL for two years and am ready for something a little more advanced (and faster, etc.) My MIL owns a 30D which is nice and I am thinking of something in that range - above entry level, not quite full-out professional.
So my options would apprear to be:
Find a used 30D and save a few bucks
Get a new (or slightly used) 40D
Wait for the new Rebel Xsi (450D), which although still technically an "entry level DSLR" will have a lot of new features that really put it into a little higher class (some features of which sound better than what you can get on the 40D).
If I want more freedom to do my own thing without the camera controlling me I assume I should lean towards the 30D or 40D, right?
But the price for the Xsi will be better, the features sound good, and I would hope I could still acheive almost the same level of independence in manual settings with the Xsi as I could with a 30/40D. I also like that the Xsi will use SD/SDHD cards - of which we already have 5 GB worth so we wouldn't have to buy new memory cards (not that it would be a big deal since memory has gotten to be pretty cheap now).
Thoughts?
Suggestions?
