Could anyone or several of you that have the canon 10-22 post a couple of examples of your pictures with it, and give me your thoughts.

This is the only lens that I have that I still would like to get. The current widest lens I have is 24mm and I finally came accross a situation where I wished that I had a wider.

so help me out, is it what I have heard?

I've been looking into this range recently myself. I've been reading that the build on the Sigma 10-20 is actually a bit than the Canon and although it's not as fast, it's showing better contrast levels. The one issue I've read about with the Sigma is any sort of lens flare tends to come out looking really weird, whereas the Canon handles it much better. With that said, the Sigma comes with a hood and bag, while the Canon supposedly does not.

Here's a bit more info/comparisons I've found.

Canon 10-22: excellent image quality overall, so-so build, fast AF, low distortion
Sigma 10-20: more light fall-off than other lenses, slower aperture (f/4-5.6), better build than Canon, more distortion, comes with hood, excellent sharpness and contrast
Tokina 12-24: Best build quality, constant f/4, not USM/HSM (but not slow), moderate CA, comes with hood, excellent sharpness and contrast
Sigma 12-24: full-frame compatible, can't use filters, pretty good sharpness but not as good as the lenses designed for APS-C if that's your intended use, slow aperture (f/4.5-5.6), tends to flare quite a bit, moderate CA.
Sigma 15-30: Cheaper than Sigma 12-24 and not as wide but otherwise very similar.

I hope this helps a bit. Judging by the quality of your photographs, and information in previous posts I've read, you seem to know your stuff, so my info may be yesterday's news.

It's a really good lens. Build wise it may not be "L" quality but optically it probably is.

My 10-22 Gallery I've uploaded a bunch of pics from a recent trip to Chicago in a gallery called Canon 10-22 (clever, huh?).

Hope that helps.

Boris

PS--this was an unedited upload, so you'll see the good and the bad.

Looked at your shots Boris, thank you. I am pleased that even wide open it isn't very fishy. I know a lot of folks love the fish look, but I am not among them, they just give me a headache.

Deleated,

Thanks for the info, I have looked at various different options, and have decided that I would prefer to stick to canon on this option. I think the build quality is the same complaint as the 17-55 f/2.8 is that is out there, people always complain it isn't built like an L lens, even though it is pretty darned good.

I think of the 3 main lenses that I plan to have in my kit this will probably be the least used one, but like I said, I was shooting at the Winchester Mystery house a couple of weeks ago, and the 24 wide end that I have really wasn't good enough in the cramped quarters. Plus my son wants me to take him shooting in Yosemite and I think that the wide angle in the nature shots could be stunning.

So how are you liking Aussie land??

Fair enough! I'm purchasing either the Canon or the Sigma in the coming weeks as well so I've been looking around quite a bit myself. I've been torn. :)

Love it, thought it's been raining alot (which we've been needing) but it's kept me indoors, so not alot of time to get out and shoot.

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered mine yesterday. Within a day it was shipped from NY and on it's way to me. UPS's website says it has already left Honolulu. B&H is fast!

Master Mason,

I think you should buy it for these reasons:

1. Another awesome piece of camera equipment into your collection.
2. Another reason for a trip back to DL (to test it out of course).
3. I'm a poor college student who will be not be able to afford the lens myself; so I need to live vicariously through you and your camera equipment.

(I can't complain I did manage to save up and buy an XTi)
