Hi all,
To those of you in the know about Candy Cane Inn, I have some questions for you:

1. If I make a reservation now, do they charge my credit card right away for the stay?

2. I read recently that the shuttle stop for CCI moved recently, so that it is far from the entrance of DL. Where is it?

3. Does the shuttle ever get so crowded that you can't get on it?

4. Which rooms do you recommend for a party of 3? (Mom, teen, 11 year old)
Is the standard room sufficient, or is it worth it to upgrade?

Thanks for any help you can provide!
Lisa

Hi all,

No, they won't charge your card until you stay.

2. I read recently that the shuttle stop for CCI moved recently, so that it is far from the entrance of DL. Where is it?

There is an entire area dedicated to shuttles, if it moved, it didn't move too far.

3. Does the shuttle ever get so crowded that you can't get on it?

Yes, during busy times, the shuttle can fill up, but they will run pretty regularly and have the ability to run more than one tram if needed.

4. Which rooms do you recommend for a party of 3? (Mom, teen, 11 year old)

We prefer the room above standard. I believe is the Deluxe rooms. They are sufficient size for 3 people. You're not going to be spending much time in your room anyway.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

We love to stay at the Candy Cane. It is a lovely hotel and the staff is very nice. You can't beat free breakfast and a dedicated shuttle. :)

Many people like the shuttle but I don't think it is worth waiting for. I can walk to the gate in about the same amount of time the shuttle takes to get there. So even it is full it is no big deal walking, although after walking for 10 miles inside the park the last 1/2 mile back to the CCI is the hardest.

Our family of 4 always get the standard and it is plenty big enough for us. We just sleep in the room.

Hi all,

It has been about 7 or 8 months since I last booked with this hotel, but they did not charge my credit card at the time of booking or any previous time that I have booked with them. They, of course, do take your credit card information and will charge you for the first night if you don't cancel at least 48 hours in advance.

2. I read recently that the shuttle stop for CCI moved recently, so that it is far from the entrance of DL. Where is it?

Yes, the shuttle stop has been pushed out of the main drop-off area since the Toy Story parking lot opened. I recall seeing the Candy Cane bus in what used to be the taxi area near Harbor. We pass by the area when walking from Hojos.

3. Does the shuttle ever get so crowded that you can't get on it?

I'm guessing it can happen. We haven't actually stayed at Candy Cane for a couple years now (I ended up canceling the reservation I made in early 2010). I know that sometimes DH and I would put the boys on our lap for the ride back in the evening due to the cramped quarters. Also, even though the driver would tell everybody no standing on the way to the park, he'd cram everybody in on the way back. It would get a little claustrophobic for me at times. We never made catching the shuttle a priority. It was just nice to be able to use it if we were going by and it was there waiting or we knew it would be there within a couple of minutes.

We have only stayed in standard rooms with our group of 4, two adults and two young children. It was fine but small. We mostly just use the room to sleep in though, so it didn't matter that much.

The Candy Cane Inn is one of the most popular hotels at the Disneyland Resort, and it offers good accommodations at good prices, especially when you consider that it provides its own shuttle (not the Anaheim Rapid Transit), is within walking distance, *and* provides a very nice complimentary breakfast.

During any busy time (such as park closing), any shuttle can be full; that's just a matter of availability.

I have clients who will not stay anywhere else besides the Candy Cane Inn, and I recently was able to book a package for clients who are going to Disneyland and got better pricing than booking direct with the Candy Cane.

Friends who stayed there at the same time we were at the Carousel were less than impressed.... Even their Premier room was much smaller than ours, the breakfast area was a little cramped, the pool very small and it was over 5 minutes further to walk than where we were... Plus it was about $20 a night more... HoJos has a bigger fan base on this board especially at the ent rate...

We have stayed at a variety of hotels near Disney....Candy Cane is one of our favorites and we always recommend it.

If the bus wasn't there or was crowded when we were ready to go we just walked it. Easy short walk.

We booked the premium room last trip and enjoyed it. I didn't think the room was all that small and it was nice to have breakfast brought to us while we were getting ready!

Yes the pool is small but we never had any problem finding space and enjoyed the great staff and very clean accomodations!

We have stayed at Hojos (we did get the entertainment rate, and that was a big bonus) so I know what that is about. We typically stay at the Disneyland Hotel, but want to make this trip more lower cost as it will just me and my two girls. I am also considering the Fairfield.

The reason I am thinking about the Candy Cane Inn is that it has a shuttle, which after staying at Hojos and making that walk a few times a day--I was willing to beg for a shuttle! ART just isn't the same with all of the stops along they way and riding with the masses. I also like that Candy Cane Inn is not ON Harbor Blvd--it is around the back of the Disneyland Resort, and the walkways are more sheltered and landscaped. I think that gives a more vacation feel to it. My 14 year old asked if we could try it this time, so I think we may do it. I like the fact that they have breakfast, even if it is simple.

Thanks for your help, everyone!
Lisa
I am also on the lookout for the 5 days for 3 that the Disneyland Resort often offers in the summer. If we could get that, I would really consider staying on property--but they probably won't release those dates till spring.

The shuttle is a definite bonus but only if its there when you decide to go... My friends never used it as it only took 5 minutes off the walk and it was never there when they were going... Where the shuttle stops now is such a pain and sitting and waiting 15 minutes for it when it is only a 5 minute walk just wouldn't happen with my family either..

The hotel is on Harbor, in fact make sure you don't get one of the rooms that front Harbor as they are noisey... But yes the second half of the walk is quite nice and sheltered...

If you were hoping to save some money we stayed at a hotel that was only 2 minutes further than the CCI and got a one bedroom suite, with a nice big pool, free breakfast, free parking, free wifi for almost half the price of CCI... CCI and Hojos are both really nice but I would only stay at either of them if I could get the ent rate type pricing.

Kiwitravel, can you tell us what hotel that you were refering to with the 1 bedroom suite and big pool? thanks!

America's Best Value Inn which is about 100 yards down Katella from Harbor...

Its nothing flash but it was clean, the grounds were really nice and we paid only $80 per night plus tax..
