Unmasking the Horror Tour Stranger Things House continued

The next victim of Venca’s is Fred Benson. He was Nancy’s assistant at Hawkins High School newspaper and now works with her at the Tiger. A small newspaper in Hawkins.

Fred and Nancy go to Forest Hills Trailer Park to have a look around because that is where Chrissy died in Eddie Munsons trailer.

While Nancy is interviewing Eddie’s Uncle Wayne Munson. Fred is walking around and hears a Grandfather clock chime and ticking and follows the sound into the trees.

Fred sees the clock sitting on a casket.

Vecna uses Fred‘s past traumatic experience of being in a fatal vehicle accident as a way into to Fred’s mind.

Eddies Uncle tells Nancy his nephew Eddie did not kill Chrissy. He said that her death was reminiscent of the deaths of Victor Creels family many years ago when he himself was a boy.

He said Victor Creel was in the Pennhurst Mental Hospital and had been locked up since the murders of his family all those years ago.

After Fred is killed by Vecna he is ensnared in the tentacles in Vecna’s Mind Lair also.

IMG_6719.jpeg

The Creel House plays a very significant role in season 4. Nancy uses her investigative knowledge to find newspaper articles of the Creel family murders and to track down Henry’s (Vecna’s) Father Victor Creel who is in Pennhurst Insane Asylum for the murder of his family. Of course it is Henry (Vecna) who actually killed them.

The actor who plays Victor Creel in season 4 is Robert Englund who played Freddy Krueger in ”Nightmare on Elm Street”.

It was nice to see the creators of the house really zone in on the significant scenes from Season 4 to present a house that was worthy of the season.

It was eventually found out by the group that Vecna (Henry was very connected to the house). His lair was in the attic of the house in the Upside Down. That is why the stairs are so significant.

Stranger Things House continued

The pictures in this section of the house continue to be of Vecna‘s Mind Lair.
IMG_6725.jpeg

The clock is significant as Vecna uses it in the hallucinations he puts into the minds Of his victims.

All Vecna’s victims start having headaches, nosebleeds and hallucinations leading up to the time they are killed by Vecna. They all see the clock and hear it chime before they die.

Someone had posted online that the chimes of a clock can be heard in Season 1 before Will is taken by the Demogorgan and in Season 3 before Billy is possessed by the Mind Flayer.

IMG_6726.jpeg

We were not allowed to take photos in the Rainbow Room of the Hawkins Laboratory. This is where Henry the first of Papa / Dr. Brenner‘s original children at the lab still lived. Henry was tattooed with the number 001 on his wrist. He was older and working as an orderly when he met Eleven.

He made Eleven feel sorry for him and tricked her into using her powers to remove a chip in his neck that was keeping his powers subdued.

Henry kills all the children with the exception of Eleven in the hospital laboratory. A lot of those killed were in the rainbow room.

In this room the children practiced using their mines to move and control objects.

In this room Eleven and Henry basically duel with their powers and Eleven eventually over Powers Henry. Opening a portal to the “Upside Down” and sending Henry there.

In the Haunted House there is a scene were Eleven has her hand outstretched with Henry held against the wall. Eleven is in the rainbow room on the right of the path and Henry is on the left of the path in another space against the wall.

I went through the house 4 times and only saw the SA’s that were playing Eleven and Henry once. The other times I went through no SA’s were in those spaces.

There was a room that showed Eddie fighting the Demobats. He is up on a stage with the music blaring. There was only one small Demobat that was over the doorway against the wall as you were leaving the room.

Eddie played Metallica‘s song “Master of Puppets“ on his guitar to draw the demobats away from the Creel House in the Upside Down so the others could try and Kill Vecna.
IMG_2593.gif

I saw Dustin in that room once with Eddie.

This is a scene from the portal that was opened at the bottom of “Lovers Lake” When another of Vencna’s victims was killed there Patrick McKinbey. It shows the Demobats.
IMG_2550.gif

Another room of the house you could not photograph showed the open portal gate to the Upside Down in ceiling of Eddie Munson’s trailer.

Sadly in a plan that goes awry to try and draw Vecna to come after his 4th victim Max. Max is used as bait in the attic of the Creel House.

The plan takes a terrible turn when Chrissy’s boyfriend Jason Carver shows up and beats up Lucas who is watching over Max.

IMG_6728.jpeg

IMG_6731.jpeg

IMG_6732.jpeg

The last room of the house which showed Venca connected to the tentacles in his Mind Lair could not be photographed, but it was pretty dramatic ending as was the ending of Jason Carver.

IMG_2595.jpeg

There was occasionally a nice big Demogorgan to see you out at the end of the house.

Now we will have to wait for Season 5. It will be the last one. So I think it will be a big ending.

I’am sure this house contributed some to HHN 32 being so popular this year. It has very large fan base for sure.

The next house on the Unmasking the Horror Tour was a Universal original House called “Dueling Dragons: Choose Thy Fate. This is a homage to the Dueling Dragon roller coaster that used to be in the Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure.

A little backstory. Many moons ago the Lost Continent in IOA had 3 three specific areas.

IMG_7456.jpeg

1. An Atlantis themed area that housed Poseidon’s Fury and Mytho’s.

IMG_3683.jpeg

IMG_3684.jpeg

IMG_3685.jpeg

IMG_3686.jpeg

IMG_7458.jpeg

2. Sindbad’s Bazaar that housed an Arabian Market Place. This area contained the
”Eighth Voyage of Sinbad” stunt show and the Mystic Fountain was part of this area and it is still there.

IMG_7463.jpeg

3. Merlinwood which was a medieval village where the Enchanted Oak Tavern was located and the Dueling Dragons Rollercoaster and ”The Flying Unicorn” coaster.

I looked for these photos on the internet.
IMG_2611.jpeg
The orginal coasters were called Dueling Dragons you chose either the Ice Dragon (Blue Roller Coaster) or the Fire Dragon (Red Roller Coaster). These two coaster ran simultaneously.

When Hogsmeade was built they rethemed the coaster to fit into the Goblet of Fire’s Triwizard Challenge and changed the name to the Dragon Challenge. Instead of choosing the Fire or Ice dragon you had the option of choosing the Hungarian Horntail or the Chinese Fireball dragon.

Now Hagrid‘s Motorbike Adventure sets in the spot where the Dragon Challenge used to be.

The Flying Unicorn was changed to Flight of the Hippogriff when Hogsmeade was built.

The Enchanted Oak Tavern

Now back to the house.

The house follows two powerful Warlocks who were turned into Dragons because they tried to steal Merlyn’s Spell book. Pyrock the Fire Dragon and Blizrock the Ice Dragon.

They break into Merlyn’s Castle to battle it out and lay waste to the Castle in an attempt to beat the other in getting to Merlyn’s spell book.

The entrance to the House looks like the facade of the Enchanted Oak Tavern.

The tour guide Bille Jane told us the designers use the colored lights they need in a design and they cover it with seal foam to create this effect.

The ending of the house as you left would show the victor. Either one of the Wizards could have been victorious over Merlyn and would have his head at the end or Merlyn would be victorious and be standing at the end.

Thankfully the 3 times I went through I saw the wise and powerful Merlyn standing at the end.

Some stand outs were Blizrock and Pyrock in their wizard form.

The giant troll was unexpected and came out from behind the wall. I only saw the troll once in the 3 times I went through the house.

Unmasking the Horror Tour continued

The next and last house on the Unmasking the Horror Tour was YETI: CAMPGROUND KILLS

There had been a Yeti house during HHN 2019 called Yeti: Terror of the Yukon it was a original house and was pretty good.

I can not say it enough how detailed the houses are. Universal has some of the most talented creators and set designers in the business.

There is so many details in the houses to appreciate in the lights on tour.

This house is really reminiscent of older camp grounds in the America of course minus the Yeti…..LOL

IMG_6813.jpeg

The gore started right off from the start with the Park Ranger getting mangled by the Yeti.

Again so many little details that are missed during the tour at night when it is dark.

I have never done any primitive camping. My sister K who was with me on this trip and her husband have been into camping for years. They have a large RV. She let me know that people who are camping in tents are primitive camping. Meaning they do not have running water or electricity or a bathroom. This scene made me think of that.

My brother in law and sister in law did a lot of hiking and primitive camping for years many moons ago. They told me stories of their camping and how they had to hang their food on rope sling on a tree branch to keep the bears and other animals away from their camp site. Nope not for me.

This little Yeti was killed by a boy at the campground.
IMG_6834.jpeg

According to Billie Jane our Tour Guide one of the creators of this house was a camper as a little boy.

This particular scene would be a nightmare to occur.

Again details are awesome. Not sure if some you remember the Jiffy popcorn tins that you could pop over your gas stove at home or a camp fire. Not sure if they sell those anymore.

IMG_6857.jpeg

This was a good house and the details were very accurate for a camping site set up. Another well designed house.

After we were done with this house it was time to head back to the old Blue Man group theatre. We were on the back lot up front and this was not a far walk.

When we were back to the theatre Billie Jean asked if there were any questions. She was a wonderful tour guide. She was Very well informed on all the houses. I have taken the UMH Tour for a number of years and she was a great Tour Guide.

We handed in our head phone boxes and I tipped Billie Jane and said goodbye.

Only two of us in the tour group tipped Billie Jane. The guides do receive tips. This is not a dig at anyone as people either do or don‘t tip according to their own decisions. I know the tours were a lot more expensive this year, but if you had a great experience on your tour and you are able to give a tip it is a nice way to show your appreciation to the UMH Tour Guide.

The tour guides are wonderful jewels in the crown of HHN as are the SA’s.

More to come on this fun trip.

I totally missed the whole context of the retirement scene - thank you. I saw the props - the table, food, etc,, but not the "retirement" sign -maybe it was torn down or temporarily removed when I went through - or maybe I just missed it between the TMs rushing you through and the SAs jumping out- easy to miss some things. Certainly never would have noticed the congratulatory letter - that was cool to read.

I remember our family buying many Jiffy Pop tins! And yes, they actually still sell them- at least walmart does. But I hear they changed the foil materials - cheaped out a bit. Some reviewers are complaining it's not durable and tears during cooking, spilling the popcorn.

Such a shame more people don't tip the tour guides. Even a token amount would be appreciated, I'm sure.

I can remember buying Jiffy Pop many years ago. I will have to see if our local Walmart carries it.

Yes, any amount would be a nice gesture for sure. I‘am guessing the increase in the price of tours has caused an issue. I hope Universal is paying them well.

It is so easy to miss the details in the dark. After I had done the UMH Tour I went through the Yeti house 3 times over a number of days and everything I saw in daylight tour was there, but I knew to look for it.

There seems to be an overall difference of experiences folks are sharing on the TM’s rushing people through the houses. It varies from folks being upset at being required to walk through quickly and those that said they were not rushed.

I remember when I went through “Stanger Things“ house for the last time the TM at the door was telling people to stay close to the person in front of you. I don‘t walk that fast so it was never really a problem for me overall.

I had to smile about it a few times because the young TM‘s idea of walking and mine are totally different. I wondered a few times if they just threw up their hands and thought here comes grandma when they saw me coming. I’am a grandma by the way….LOL

I would always tell people who were walking quickly behind me to go around me until we reached the area were the EP line stopped.
