About a week ago, I saw some published dates of this years Candlelight Processional on a different non-Disney web page. Well, guess what? They were WRONG. They published 12/11-12 weekend. WRONG WRONG WRONG. Per Disneyland Guest Relations (today), it is 12/5-6.

That being said, I do have an idea of what it is. Since we are going to be there for the 5th and 6th, I'd like so opinions on timing, location, how to best view it, if it's even possible to get into the Fantasyland Theater for the reading, etc. This is NOT a separate ticket event. Can anyone who's been to it enlighten me? Thanks!

I don't know where you were reading, but there is no chance it was ever scheduled as late as the 11th and 12th. The CP is traditionally held the first weekend of December. And the last several years the performance has been held in Town Square, not Fantasyland Theater, and it is, in fact, a separate ticketed event in order to get a seat for the show.

I read it was on the 11th and 12th at LaughingPlace.com. When I spoke to Guest Services today, the CM told me it was NOT a ticketed event. He said he "knew", because he's "in it".

It is not a "dining package" like in the past, but it is a separate ticketed event which is only being offered to D23 members this year.

From AVP on MousePlanet:

A spokesperson for the Disneyland Resort has confirmed for MousePlanet that there will be no Candlelight Dining Packages offered for 2009. D23 members will be able to purchase tickets to the Candlelight Spectacular event we wrote about yesterday (link), but there will be no other seating opportunities available to the general public. It looks like anyone who wants to see the show this year will do so from somewhere on Main Street.

my understanding is that it is ticketed if you want a reserved seat. Otherwise, if you are willing to stand and wait in a long line, it costs nothing extra.

I ran into that posting last year and after checking a bit found that that was for the 1999 show (Olympia Dukakis was the narrator).

9 times out of 10 it is the first weekend in December, but there have been years where because of scheduling it has been moved to the second weekend in December instead. It was in Town Square for years, and then they moved it to the Fantasy Land Theater for a couple of years about 9 years or so ago, and then they moved it back to Town Square and it has been there every year again since. You can get tickets through D23 and other ways. Disney has VIP seating for people and Club 33 members usually get seats as well. But you can also see the event if you stand around and wait to watch it like you do for the parades.

I saw that the D23 package is only being offered on Sunday. I haven't heard if there will be any seats available on Saturday on a first come, first serve basis or if it will be all standing room only. To me, "ticketed event" implies that without a ticket, you cannot see the show. With the CP, I have not attended, but have heard from past attendees that you can see the show without reserved seating if you are willing to stake out a spot. I would consider the show free, like Fantasmic, which also has a reserved seating package.
