I noticed today on the Disney Events page that the Candlelight Procession is taking place on Saturday, Dec. 8 - this will be our last night at DL and I was wondering if this is a show that shouldn't be missed. What exactly is it?

It's been a while, and they've change the way they do things. I think you need a ticket for this event. Don't know if you have to buy it, or if it's something that's more like a reservation. I know my sister's gone in recent years. Last time I went was years ago when they had singers come down mainstreet from Small world, to the train station and they stood on bleachers shaped like a tree and sang. They held candles. I think they might do that in reverse now. (or have the concert first then go down mainstreet). I'm pretty sure they now do it in Fantysland stage. Sorry I don't have more info. I'll see if I can get some though.

thank you, I really appreciate it. It doesn't sound like anything my kids would really fall over backward to attend. Maybe we will skip it. There will be plenty of other things to keep us all busy :D

I, too, would love some additional information about this.

I've heard the Candlelight will be in Fantasyland and not in/around Main street - and the term "procession" no longer apply's

Two shows; Friday, December 7 & Saturday, December 8 (5 & 745 - i think).

Also, understand most tickets are offered to corporate sponsers - family/friends of DL "mucky-mucks". How have others attended this event - stand by line, tickets offered at rope drop..etc.

- sure would love if someone would confirm/correct this. We will be taking our 3 dd's and my Mom from 12/3-8. Have heard this is not an DL event to miss.

Thank you for your information - support...you have made our trips to WDW/DL/DCL soooooo much better.

What is the Candlelight Procession?
The Candlelight Procession begins with a procession of choir members making their way from the gate by the Firehouse, up Main Street, up Small World Mall and into the Fantasyland Theater. During the trip the choir members hold candles and sing Christmas carols. Once in the theater the choir members fill the stage and form a living Christmas Tree. A celebrity guest narrator then tells the story of Christmas. Throughout the story the narrator pauses and the choir sings Christmas carols. Live musicians, including the spectacular fanfare trumpeters, accompany what is always an emotional evening.

History
The first Candlelight Procession was held in 1955. It was actually a Choir Festival with individual choirs performing under a gazebo near the Jungle Cruise. For the next few years the ceremony consisted of participating choirs who performed around the hub facing the choir director. In 1960, Candlelight grew to 800 singers who followed the Christmas parades. Finally, in 1961 a narrator was added to the Ceremony. Past Disneyland narrators include Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, John Wayne, James Earl Jones, Mary Hart and, last year, Olympia Dukakis
