I found out just under two weeks ago that my dad has cancer. Mesothelioma, not a good outcome type of cancer. We were going to go to WDW from April 26 to May 5 with our two kids. At first we thought that we would still go, as my mom and dad were telling us that we should go. So we decided to fly instead of drive, cutting the trip by 3 nights. So I booked airfaire from Midway to MCO on Southwest. Now last week my dad go readmitted to the hospital with his blood sugars out of wack, they are controlled, but he is having violent diaphram spasms, worse than your standard hiccups, and the only way that they control they is to snow him with meds. So we have decided to cancell the trip, loosing $100 from the package, and have our airfare as a credit for the next year for SWA.

I am throwing around the idea of rebooking for just the kids and I (5 and 6) for late October when they are off of school for 2 days and take them for a long weekend. DH cannot change vacation plans very easily, so I do not think that it is possible that he will be able to come with us. I thought that I would book without telling the kids, incase I would have to cancel again depending on what is happening with my dad.

I just had a feeling in the back of my head after we finalized this trip that something would happen and we would not be able to go, especially since we did not initially plan to go in 2006, and it was becoming a trip of a lifetime for us. Thank for reading

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I'll be praying for him and for your family :grouphug:

I am sorry to hear about your father, your family will be in out thoughts and prayers. We had a trip planned for April 2003, my dad had cancer and was becoming more ill. My mom said to just leave the trip (as it was for BIL wedding) and see how things progressed. My father died March 5 2003, about 4 weeks before the Disney trip. We ended up inviting my mom along. None of us were sure we would even be in the mood and we had such a wonderful together. There were hard moments, but my mother still talks about what a good experience it was for her. It was the first thing she ever did "alone". Although we were with she had never done anything without my dad. She even decided to brave Space Mountain--my mom is not the adventurous type. We still talk about it all the time. I guess my point is, if you were thinking of going again sometime you might want to include your mom, depending on how your dad's health is. My best wishes for your family

I am so sorry to hear this. I wish you and your family nothing but the best. I hope that eventually you will be able to go with your family under better circumstances. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

P.S I would wait till you and your dh cound go together. It's something you'll want to experience together as a family.
