cancelling reservations question

We are on the free dining plan for the first time in September. We are doing really good at figuring out our ADR's. But I just had a question about if we have to or choose to cancel a reservation. I thought I saw on the Disney website that you have to cancel within 48 hours? Is that correct? If its not in the 48 hour window do you get charged for anything? Just wondering cuz we are not really plan it to the minute trip people. Thanks!!

This is only true if you have booked any meal or event for which you had to prepay or give a credit card number to guarantee the reservation. If you book CRT, a dinner show, California Grill, Akershus princess meals, or a Fantasmic dining package, you will need to give a credit card as a no-show guarantee and pay attention to the cancellation policies.

so if you have adr's NOT at one of those places and if you do cancel in less than 48 hours or simply don't show up for an ADR what happens?
(other than you tick off a fellow dis'er who might have wanted that adr slot LOL)

and yes, I know it's rude and impolite and inconsiderate. I'm just wondering what happens. :)

Nothing happens, they don't track you down and break your kneecaps :goodvibes. but, (here is the Public Service Announcement) Please do cancel as soon as you know that you won't be using an ADR (even that same day) so it gets opened up to other guests.

Thank you. :) I don't forsee any adr cancellations on my end, but I"m traveling with 8 people and stuff happens sometimes (like one or two magaritas at the pool with some chips and salsa.....and before you know it no one wants to leave the pool :rotfl2:)

I want to mention that I tried to cancel an ADR on Sunday morning that I knew we weren't going to use for lunch that day. When I called (around 8 AM), I was told there would be a 30 minute wait. Sorry, I'm not going to wait that long to cancel a reservation when I'm actually at the park on my way out the door. For future reference, was there a 'cancellation line' to call (I used the regular dining reservation line)? The previous day I called at the same time to cancel the other ADR that we weren't going to use and I got right through, so I didn't think it would be a problem to call again around the same time.

Very good question cnjmom. I had the same problem last Sept. Was trying to cancel while there and called and was told a 35 minute wait. I was able to cancel later when at the conceierge person, but we were a no show for one. Sorry but I couldn't make my kids stand there for 45minutes while I cancelled a dining reservation! My DD had turned out to be terrfied of characters and I had to cancel all our character meals. Turned out to be someones lucky day that day.

I would absolutely call if we were going to cancel, even if its just to make me feel warm and happy that someone else could get in. But that wait time is crazy! I really hope we don't have to cancel, but I wanted to make sure my kneecaps stay intact:rotfl: Thanks for the help!!!

If your in the park you can also stop by and let them know at the podium that you wont be using your ADR so they can go ahead and release the table to someone else. At that point its probably going to a walk up rather than someone calling for an ADR anyway.
