Hi there!

DVC member services is down until Saturday so I'm really hoping someone on here knows how to handle this.

We are scheduled to arrive tomorrow; our flight to MCO has already been cancelled. We may explore flying into Atlanta and driving down when it is safe.

However, what I'm really hoping to do is reschedule this trip to January 2017. If I cancel now, will I still be penalized with my points going into a holding account? The DVC hurricane policy doesn't define this well. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

I read another post that Disney returned someones points due to the closings and the pending storm....I dont want to say thats the policy, but i know i just read that

Yes, they will help with the points. Only issue is if they were already banked once. Reschedule is obvs subject to availability.

MS has a great track record of trying to help in these situations. I would email them now and call when they open. Good luck!

I'd also go ahead and cancel online so the resort isn't expecting you. The points will go into holding but MS can change their status once you're able to speak to them.

I was on hold for a long time this morning to cancel our reservations for the weekend. The will return the points to where they came from. I did have 33 points that were banked...so those will expire 4/17. Fortunately, the rest were 2016 use year so I can bank those. Not sure when we will be able to get all our kids schedules to mash up again. My dd17 is still teary. Disappointing but glad to be able to cancel without issues.

They have a curfew announced until Saturday 7 am.

I think Psycho's dd17 should understand that if she were here, she would not be having any fun at all, and in fact, might have been quite terrifying. 50+ mph winds are deadly!!.

Here's the Policy for DVC.
If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area, Vero Beach area, Hilton Head Island, Oʻahu or for the Member's place of residence no more than 7 days before your scheduled arrival date, you may call Member Services in advance to modify, based on availability, or cancel your Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation without any cancellation or modification penalty.

There was a hurricane warning issued for the Orlando area. As I recall, it first occurred on Wednesday, 10/5. It is still in effect as I type this post.

I have a reservation for today that I will probably have to cancel. I think my points are 2015 points that would have needed to be banked by July. Will they let me bank the points to use in April?

Probably.

You'll have to ask but historically they've been very liberal in this situation.

DVC was great about returning the points with no restrictions. The only thing they said is that it may take about a week to show that way in my account due to all the canceled trips they were processing. If I wanted to use before then, I could just call, and that if I don't see them without the restrictions after a week, to call them back.

Thanks for this info. My points have been In Holding since Wednesday. After reading others experience of points not doing so, I sent a secure message. Still have not gotten a reply back, but understandable why. Hopefully mine will change soon.

That sounds great, Sandi! I am always so happy to read when DVC uses liberal policies to deal with special circumstances. And when a DIS regular benefits, even better!!!
