Cancelling and rebooking a trip paid with gift cards?

So planning ahead for the long, long hold times that I am expecting on the day that the new discount is released. I have a trip booked and mostly paid with Disney Gift cards. If I can't get through, can I cancel that trip and book a new one online to ensure I get the resort and room I want (if available)?

If yes, what happens to the gift cards? Does the original balance go back to the gift cards? I saved them all just in case!

Yes, they would go back to the gift cards.

You could also book your new res and as long as it's the same type (RO or PKG) you can call them and have them transfer the funds from one res to the other. DONT cancel the old res if you want to do the transfer.
