Cancelled trip but need to use my points SOMEWHERE by Sept 30

My DDIL as many of you may have read was diagnosed with cancer after our trip had been booked for months. We were hoping to go and her oncologist had said we could. However, she has now had some complications and we just are not going to risk going to Orlando.

My points will expire soon and I can only get two nights at HH. What are some RCI options in the SC, NC, Ga area we could trade into with our DVC points. And how many points does that usually take?? If you have experience with this POST something asap so I can make a plan with my points. We still plan to go somewhere closer to home and that will be more relaxing than a theme park vacation.

I don't think you are going to be able to use them anywhere. You cannot book and travel during the last 4 months of your UY anywhere than an a DVC resort. You many want to take the two days at HH and keep calling daily or twice a day.

Did you cancel your orlando reservation if not you may want to try renting it out as is.

I am surprised that HHI is booked for September.

I am guessing they have gone to the resort as cash/breakage. Keep calling, I know at WDW they can sometimes reclaim the rooms from breakage.

Any inventory not booked by members on point stays 60 days out may be made available for maintenance (breakage) and rental.

If rooms have been set aside from that inventory for maintenance very unlikely they will give them up, as they do need the time for repairs, etc.

However if they have been released to the resort for cash rental sometimes they can recall them.

This is something that Member Services has to contact the resort about it.

I have had it happen at WDW, not sure if HHI works differently.

I have read several threads about member services granting a "one time exception" to the banking deadline. Perhaps when you contact them you might explain the medical situation. If you could bank these 2010 points, you could have more time to plan a HHI trip, if traveling to WDW is not possible.

I see that you are a new DVC family at VWL; as we are (with 1st grandchild).

I, too, would call Member Services to get ideas from them.

Also, there are a couple of dvc point rental brokers [Dave who advertises on the DIS is one] who might buy them from you for enough money to cover your MFs.

I may try a points broker to see if I can sell them. Thanks for your concern for our family.

I am grateful that I did not purchase our Halloween party tickets, our park hoppers we purchased can just be used when we do get to go on our first DVC park trip and we'll have new points to use when she is healthy enough to go.

You could still bank those points into the World Passport Collection (RCI). That collection is not affected by the rule of 4 since it still involves a DVC reservation.

Here are the points needed for World Passport reservations:

Studio. 106 Low/123 Mid/134 High
1 BR.... 124 Low/144 Mid/160 High
2 BR.....207 Low/252 Mid/270 High
3 BR.....276 Low/317 Mid/349 High

If these are points that have never been banked, I would ask MS about still being able to bank them (even though you are well beyond your banking deadline). If that is no possible, I'd consider the World Passport Collection since you have enough points for at least a 1BR (possibly a 2BR if you cancel the 2 nites at HH) and that extends the use of the points by a couple of years.
