Cancelled SOG Contem 2/14-2/20

My father, our sponsor, decided he and my mom aren't up to taking the trip to Disney this year so I just cancelled our reservation for 3 rooms at SOG (Shades of Green) Contemporary for Feb 14 through Feb 20 of this year. So if you need those dates and qualify for SOG and were unable to get those dates before, it is worth trying to get room(s) unless those rooms go to someone on the wait list. Later in the week, I will also be cancelling Feb 21 through Mar 2. We originally had the reservation for Feb 14 through Mar 2 but I was unable to cancel the entire reservation without my father's social security number. I had them alter the reservation so that gives me another week (30 day cancellation policy) to get in touch with my father and get his social security number. I was on hold for almost 30 minutes, waiting to talk to a reservation agent this morning!

In case anyone is interested, when I talked with SOG last week, the suite is available Jan 14th, Jan 19-25, Mar 4, Mar 8-Apr 4. There is only one suite available at the Contemporary and it usually books 12 months in advance. The agent was surprised at the availability. Unfortunately I can't convince my parents to go with us! I would love to stay in that suite! The price is $225 a night for 2 adults, $10 charge per extra adult.

While it's nice that you're trying to help, those rooms would go to those people all ready on the waiting list, as you mentioned they might.

They must have a new policy because they should not have touched your father's reservation without proof (SSN) that you were altering/cancelling it for him. What they would have told you (if the old policy was in effect) was: "Sorry you don't have the correct information to make any changes, but we close at 5pm and you're welcome to get your father's SSN and call us back before the 30 day cancel policy." Rather scary to me that it seems any one can call and claim they're related to the vacationers and alter the reservation. And yes, we did have people trying to do that, even those WITH SSNs, who were getting back at ex's (or those in the middle of a divorce) and those they were angry with to ruin their vacations.

And 30 mins is about the average hold time this time of the year. Sorry you have to cancel!

Thanks, I'm sorry that we had to cancel too, and at such a late notice. My parents are both in their seventies (my Dad retired DOD) and they decided they weren't up to the trip. My sister's family had to cancel as well. We still want to possibly try to make the trip but need to find something affordable at the last minute (especially important since hubby is between jobs).

Madelyn - just wanted to say 'Thank you' for the heads up about the dates that the suite was available. I was able to switch my ressies to the suite from March 28 through April 3. What a deal!! The rate is $225 a night. Rack rate for this room during peak season is $990. Thanks again!!

Glad I was able to help! I'm so envious that you get to stay at the suite at the Contemporary! It is a once in a lifetime opportunity (when would I ever be able to afford the rack rate of that suite!) Was hoping the allure of the suite would change my dad's mind. Oh well....please tell us all about your stay when you get back!
