First of all I would like to thank all of you who called every morning for the summer AP rates. I've been watching the thread every day. I really thought we June travellers would get something. Now I am SO dissappointed.

I've had a ressie at AKL at about $300/night. I can't justify spending that much per night. Just yesterday I booked the Swan at the goverment rate as a back-up. Turns out that was a good idea and good timing. I've cancelled AKL. We love the Swan area so I know we'll be happy.

I think making a rack rate ressie in hopes of getting an AP discount back-fired on me. Kudos to Disney being able to fill rooms at rack rates. Does anyone else plan on downgrading or cancelling?

Congrats to all who got discounts!

I'm going in June as well, staying at POR. I'm very disappointed that June was skipped. I knew it was a possibility, but it's still disappointing. Anyway, we will be staying at POR regardless. I am splitting the bill with someone else, which makes it easier to deal with.

I love AKL but I couldn't justify Rack rate with the S/D rates ,maybe over Xmas time but not June. You'll be running around the parks and pools anyway, right!!!

The location of the Swan is really growing on us. I think it's a good move, even though we didn't anticipate it. We'll be there for the end of the Flower festival and a Star Wars weekend. That's where we'll spend most of our park time so it will be very convenient. I can't wait to see the flowers! And the pool looks really big and beautiful.

Buttercup, You will love the Swan! It is always my FIRST choice. Be sure to sign up for the Starwood Prefered Guest program. You will earn points for free nights. I might get flamed for this but there is NO way I am paying $300 a night for a hotel with only bus transportation, I don't care if there are animals out my window! The Boardwalk area is so nice, you can walk to so many things and the boats are very relaxing. Enjoy!

We were hoping for Yacht Club AP rates. We had already booked the Swan for $165/night but would have switched for a good AP rate. I'm super happy that we'll still be able to stay deluxe for WDW moderate rack rates! :teeth:

You will love the Swan. You will love the beds much better than any Disney resort...And if the Swan has adopted the Heavenly shower along with the heavenly bed you will be overjoyed!!! Have tons of fun!

I think making a rack rate ressie in hopes of getting an AP discount back-fired on me.

In this case it did, because you couldn't afford the rack rate at the resort you wanted.

The way I would do this, personally, is book a room I can afford and live with. If a discounted rate came out later, I'd change the reservation...instead of doing it the other way around.

There are fewer and fewer discounts available and if you've already booked a room you like, you're not having to cancel and move if no discount comes out.

I'm waiting/hoping for a Passholder rate at AKL during early August. I'm not counting on it at this point but I am waiting... My friend and I considered BC but decided that our hearts are set on AKL and that is where we are going to stay, whether we have to pay rack rates or not. We've been lucky and gotten AP rates for a couple of years now on every trip...
It's hard to stomach the price difference but I guess I'd started to take those discounts for granted. Anyway, we're happiest at AKL so that's where we're going! Guess I need to go ahead and book a room before they sell out!! :surfweb:
