I know at the Universal resorts that less than 6 days notice you lose the deposit but what happens if when I get there I want to drop the last day off the booking which is for 2 nights, therefore making it only one night?

Claire ;)

i know from experience you can do changes 48 hours prior and not lose your deposit.

if you check in one day and then want to cancel the next day stay, i don't know.

to be on the safe side, you should contact the hotel directly to get the correct information.

when you call to check this out, be sure to get the name of the employee (and their position) in case you do not talk to a supervisor. you never know if you need back up facts in case things are not the way you were told in advance.

any one here can post their thoughts on your question.
when you are dealing with your money, you should call the hotel direct and get the facts.

just my suggestion so you don't lose out on $$

As Mac said, you will have to get the definitive answer from the hotel.

If you have any kind of discounted rate that is tied to nights, your rate would jump to rack rate for the one night you are there.

Although I think I remember reading somewhere that somebody was reporting that they were still responsible for the second night because it was less than 5 days notice. Apparently the hotel told her they were cracking down on this because people were booking two nights so that their hotel key cards would show both nights imprinted on it, giving them 3 days of FOTL. And then they would cancel the second night. But their key cards still were imprinted with the 2 nights and could still potentially be used in the parks as 3 day FOTL cards.

But you need to check the policies with the hotel.

let me qualify my post above.

the change made 48 hours in advance was due to a family emergency.
person had to change flights and return home asap.

they took the first plane out of orlando they could reschedule which cut their stay short.

Your scenario makes perfect sense :goodvibes Especially since they probably had all the verification needed if the hotel asked to show they really were leaving and have an emergency.

I should also qualify that what I read, and I admit my memory of the scenario is fuzzy, was exactly what the OP was talking about - booking a two night stay but then trying to cancel the second night once you get there. Apparently, some have been trying to do that to get an extra day of FOTL printed on their cards since you don't turn your cards in when you check out.

Thanks for the answers. Think I shall have to make the decision at the cancellation date ie 6 days before arrival, just not sure due to being on the DVC waitlist for one night! If we get that one night then would probably only want to spend a night at Universal. Although if I only wanted one night, ie the first it is cheaper on APH rate than if I kept the 2 nights

I would still just give the front desk a call and ask. Go to www.loewshotels.com and get the direct number to the hotel and just call them.

They are usually pretty helpful. If they say no problem, make sure you get the name of the person you spoke to and the time you spoke to them.

When I have had the info, Loews has never disputed what was told to me.

Good luck and have a great vacation!
