Cancellation for non-payment question

Not sure if this is the best place for this, but asking here since it involves a resort/package reservation. Also, this is not for me as I've never been in this situation, but I am trying to find out for someone else.

If you do not make your final package payment at 30 days, what time is your reservation actually canceled? Do you have until midnight on that 30th day or does it cancel as soon as the calendar hits that day? I've also read that Disney sends you an email with a final warning that your reservation is subject to cancellation but that they don't actually cancel it for a few more days. That didn't really sound right to me, but I don't know. I've always paid well in advance of the 30 day mark.

Does anyone know so I can advise this person?

I made a payment with a Disney rewards gift card that didn’t get accepted for payment (the rest of the balance did go through with the Disney Visa card). I remember receiving a reminder the next day (day after payment deadline). I called a CM and explained the situation and paid the balance (a hundred something of a 6k package). Not sure what went wrong because the payment screen did accept the rewards card and showed the balance on the card.

This happened to my aunt in law, she forgot to pay off the trip. She was somewhere between 3 and 5 days past the deadline and noticed it wasn't in her plans anymore. She called when she realized and they restored everything.

If this person knows they will be late with the final payment, I suggest contacting WDW in advance of the payment deadline to discuss options for an extension.
