Canceling a ressie? (Weather related)

Hi there-

Just wanted a little info on the cancellation policy for DVC. I'm pretty sure that reservations for DVC need to be cancelled 30 days in advance. But, we are thinking of going last week of August 05. My favorite time of year- sandwiched in between the hurricanes last year. Last year we stayed at POR but this year we will be owners and are planning on coming home to SSR. Can anyone give me an idea of what the policy was for DVCers last year during the hurricanes?

They handle things like hurricanes, major snowstorms, terrorist attacks and other major events on a case-by-case basis. They don't have a stated policy but they have been very reasonable in allowing people to change their plans with little or no penalty. Hopefully, hurricane season will be much kinder next year!

The regular standard is that if you cancel at 30 days or less points go into a "holding account". They have to be used by the end of your Use Year and can't be banked. Reservations using these points can only be made 60 days or less from check-in.

We had reservations in September this year .When Ivan looked like it was going to go straight through Florida, MS put their hurricane policy into effect. I was able to cancel my reservation less than one week before arrival and my points were put back into my account, not holding. Hopefully next year will be much calmer.

This year they even returned borrowed points to their original use year. They were very accomodating to members.
