Good afternoon, everyone! Welcome to my pre-dining /trip report!:goodvibes

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I fell in love with Disneyland. Yup, that’s me….vllygrrl (38)! Originally a Jersey girl, my family moved to Southern California in the late 80’s, and the original House of Mouse was just a hop skip and a jump away…and I did a LOT of hopping, skipping and jumping!

Fast forward to the mid-nineties, and my family had already moved back to Jersey…it’s hard to be away from family for long periods of time, so I followed suit. A couple years later, I met Grumpy(40), my DH…we were engaged a month later, and married the following year (who says you can’t meet the love of your life in a bar???:confused3 LOL!:rotfl:)

For our first anniversary, we took a trip to WDW…DH had always wanted to stay at the Contemporary, and I the Polynesian, so we did a split stay. It was then that Grumpy was converted into a fellow Disney fanatic….see, told ya he was the love of my life! This year will mark our 9th trip together….and we are celebrating our 10th anniversary:love:. We had initially booked a fantastic Eastern Caribbean cruise (that is what we did for our honeymoon), but in the beginning of August, Grumpy said to me “What if we took a really nice trip to Disney instead?” Let me tell you, that cruise was cancelled the very next day! :cool1: I didn't even question DH as to what changed his mind...who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth? I was a little concerned about leaving our little guy, 6, home….fortunately, DMiL will move into our house to stay with him while we’re away….so to assuage our guilt, Grumpy booked us another trip for next August!:dance3:

Let me tell you, Grumpy was not kidding about making this trip special for our anniversary! In 2 blinks of an eye:wizard:, he had us in a club level room at Animal Kingdom Lodge (he swore he’d never stay here, so this is like an early present to me…and club level to boot?) and added on the DELUXE dining plan! Oh my! I may have died and gone to Disney heaven!:cloud9: He then presented me with a confirmation that he bought tickets to MVMCP….who is this guy?

So…what about the dining? Obviously, my big fear was that by booking our trip so late, we wouldn’t be able to get any reservations, right? WRONG! It is like the ghost of Walt himself smiled upon us.:woohoo: We got every reservation we wanted, right off the bat! And then a few days later, an even more magical event occurred:wizard:….I managed to snag us an 8:10am reservation to Cinderella’s Royal Table for breakfast! Neither of us have ever gone here, and if it were not for the DxDP that would still be the case.

So….for your viewing pleasure….here are our reservations, as they now stand, with all the ones we‘ve never been to marked (new):

Anyone out there?

At this point the thing I’m most concerned about is the Narcoossee’s dinner right before the Christmas Party:scared:…we’re mostly going for the shows and parade though, so it should be fine. The other issue will be what to wear…for example, we plan to go to see the Osborne Lights right before dinner at the Yachtsman Steakhouse. How do I dress for both a park and a nice dinner? Of course, if that is my biggest problem right now, I need to step back and realize that I am a lucky, lucky woman….:charac2:

Alright, now here’s the plan. Grumpy and I will be driving to FL from NJ:car:, and taking the Auto Train home. We always find the drive down easy, but going home is awful:sick:….you’re excited when you’re going, but hate to leave! We would take the Auto Train both ways, but for just 2 people it would be much cheaper to fly….and Grumpy HATES to fly. So much so, in fact, that on 2 of our trips, DS and I have flown and he has met us at the hotel:laughing: (I actually LOVE it when he agrees to that….he takes the luggage, and DS and I are strictly carry on!) Grumpy has been obsessively planning the drive down…right to the gas stations we will stop at. Hotels for the first 2 nights have been booked and re-booked. As OCD as I am about the time we spend at Disney, he is this way about the drive. He refuses to use a computer to make a spreadsheet, but will spend hours handwriting tables and calculations.

According to his latest manifesto, we are leaving on Friday, November 5 at 3AM. :coffee: Ooofah! I would be much happier if his note said 4am, and then have it a happy accident if we leave earlier (our last trip found us on the road at 3:30am, because we both were too excited to sleep!) Grumpy is a police officer, and will just have finished a week of the midnight shift, so he will be used to being awake at this ungodly hour. I, on the other hand, will be expected to take over driving in the later daytime hours when Grumpy finally realizes he’s exhausted:headache:…hmmm, it’s not seeming like such a great idea to leave that early, is it? We have a stop scheduled at 7:30am for gas, a trip to JR Outlet in NC at 9:50am, a 1PM stop at Cracker Barrel for lunch, and according to the magic plan, we should arrive at the Microtel in Kingsland GA at 4:45pm. We stayed here on our last “race to the last exit in GA” and were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was for the small price. Grumpy is very particular when it comes to motels….I am less so. However there was the one incident when Grumpy kept driving for hours with a screaming 2 year old when I finally joined in the screaming that we needed to pull over and we ended up in a sleazy motel with no deadbolt and neither of us slept out of fea:scared1:r….so that may have something to do with it. Whew! At least on Saturday we get to sleep in!

I'm here! :goodvibes Great start. Wow that's quite an impressive list of ADR's!

Hooray!:goodvibes I'm not all by myself anymore! Tell your friends;):rotfl2:!

I guess there's nothing better I could be doing on this rainy Monday than to post another update, so I'll get right to it!:woohoo:

Saturday morning, we will stay at the hotel until 11am, then proceed to Orlando. We have booked a “fireworks” view room at the Best Western Lake Buena Vista, near Downtown Disney. It is the 4th hotel in the area that we have booked….started at the Palms, then the Comfort Inn Main Gate, then the Holiday Inn Sun Spree….sigh. We got a good rate, and even though the reviews of the hotel aren't the best, it's close, and only for a night. Once settled, we will make our traditional first night trek to Downtown Disney to do a little shopping, and have dinner at the House of Blues - I scored a $25 gift certificate for $2 at restaurant dot com, so I’m pretty happy about that:woohoo:. Grumpy loves the Blues Brothers, so he was down with this choice. I’ve heard we need to get the cornbread, beyond that I’m lost:confused3. We’ll get back to the room before 9 so that we can watch Illuminations at a distance. At least, that’s what HE thinks….I’m thinking a couple pints at Raglan Road would be nice….

Sunday morning we will be up and at ‘em, raring to go!:banana::banana: After we booked our trip, we realized we had made a genius move….it’s daylight savings! 7am will still feel like 8am this day!:yay: We’ll leave our hotel around 7am to head over to Animal Kingdom Lodge and check into the club! I am stupid excited about this. We’ll grab some breakfast snacks at the club, then once we get everything taken care of, the plan is to head over to Epcot for rope drop. We had initially booked the Akershus princess breakfast at 9:30am, but when I scored Cinderella’s Royal table Akershus had to go! The thought is - we’ll snack at the Concierge lounge before we leave, tackle Future World, then enjoy some treats at the Food and Wine Festival before we hop a boat over to the Studios for dinner at the Brown Derby. I’ve always loved this restaurant, but can’t quite figure out why…maybe it reminds me of California, my old stomping grounds? This evening is totally up in the air - because it’s the first day, we may be up for Illuminations. We thought about seeing Fantasmic, but we decided that we’ve seen it so many times it’s no longer a must do for us….and we’re coming back with my family next summer, so they will want to see it then.

I would but I'm pretty much talking to myself on my own PTR today!

Your first few days sounds amazing! :goodvibes I too am very excited about getting an extra hour at Disney due to turning the clocks back!! :cool1:

Wow, have I been MIA or what!:confused3 And with only 3 weeks to go, too!

Me thinks Grumpy is getting excited. Yesterday, he surprised me with an adorable Tink Halloween snowglobe/box. It has Tink in a witches hat, sitting on a cauldron, and when you shake it there are Bats instead of snow.:tink::hmghost: This morning, he called me to see if we could cancel the Friday night reservation in GA and just try to make it all the way to Orlando that day. Why sure, honey, what's another 3 hours in the car?:rolleyes1It's really no problem, though, the Lake Buena Vista resort was able to add a night on early...and now, I have the opportunity to go to the shopping event at Downtown Disney on 11/5:woohoo:.

Okay, I think I left off with Sunday...so here we go again...

Monday morning, we are off to the Magic Kingdom bright and early, because I somehow managed to get us an 8:10 reservation to dine in the Castle!:wizard: The Castle!!! I know….I’m a really big dork.:confused3 I’m 38 years old and this is probably the meal I’m most looking forward to, even though I’m aware that the food isn’t really that great, etc. Plus, I’ve had reservation trauma with it - even though I logged into my resort reservation it still charged my credit card for this meal.:scared1: Now I’m stuck paying interest on it for the next 2 months, only to get it refunded when I’m there. I could try to call dining to get it switched, but I’m afraid that in the seconds it is released back into the system someone else will swoop in and grab it! With the amount of people clogging the phone lines for this coveted reservation, how is it that they have not fixed this online yet? DH and I have never had an ADR for the Magic Kingdom that got us into the park early - I can’t wait. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: From there, we will hit all our favorites, then head back to the hotel for a break. We have a 6pm reservation at the Flying Fish….the Boardwalk is DH’s second favorite hotel (the Contemporary tops his list), so I know he’s going to sigh and second guess our resort choice when we go to this meal. Hopefully AKL will be as magical as I think it will be and he’ll be having a fabulous time.
Tuesday we had initially booked an early breakfast at Boma, and an early dinner at the Yachtsman Steakhouse. The original plan for Sunday had been dinner at the Hollywood Brown Derby, and then a stroll through the Osborne Lights….except I overlooked the minor detail that the Osborne Lights were not opening until Monday:sad2:! So….breakfast in the lounge it is and we will head to the Studios for rope drop. I managed to cancel Boma and snag an 11:45 reservation at the Sci Fi Dine In Theater…I like this restaurant for the ambiance, and quite honestly Grumpy will probably welcome the chance to have a burger. We’ll take a break, then head back to the Studios in the evening to see the Osborne Lights, then we have an 8:15 dinner ressie for the Yachtsman Steakhouse. Grumpy is always happier when he gets a good steak.:goodvibes

Okay, now I'm practicing my photobucket skills in preparation for the trip...I can't wait to see this again!

Welcome!:goodvibes:goodvibes Our tickers are exactly the same! I'm very excited for AKL, but Grumpy doesn't want to stay there at all because of the distance. Their CL is much more reasonable than the other deluxes though, and that's what tipped the scale in my favor. The only time we've ever stayed CL was in 2003 at the BWI, when I was 7 months pregnant. We did not have a good experience there....our room was as far away from the lobby and the CL as you could get, and we didn't find the cast members there helpful at all....or even friendly!:confused3 I've read great things about AKL CL, so here's hoping that it all works out better this time.:hippie:

You could still be a decent away from the Lobby at AKL, but I don't think its too bad. We got a Pool View room, and we were on the 4th floor down the Zebra Trail before the elevators. It was a really great location, because we weren't too far from the Lobby, and we could take the elevator down to the Pool and Mara.

I don't think the travel time is too bad either. Will you be using your car? The Animal Kingdom is literally right around the corner. The Magic Kingdom is the furthest away, but we never thought it was too bad. We took afternoon breaks almost every day, and still found that we had plenty of time in the parks.

Maybe for my 10th Anniversary I'll be able to convince DH to stay at AKL CL. For now we're trying other resorts though...

Thank you! Hello!

I think the distance bothered me more at BWI because I was 7 months pregnant, and we were quite literally at the farthest possible point from the lobby. :confused3

I'm with you on the travel time, since we're driving down from NJ we will have the car, and DH has already budgeted in valet parking for the week (seriously, this is too much luxury for one trip....I may never be able to go back to "normal" travel again:laughing:). It's not me I'm worried about, however....Grumpy can get, well, grumpy!:rotfl2: Here's hoping he decides to be more Zen this trip:hippie:.

Wednesday we plan to head on over to AK, again for rope drop. Everest, Nemo:fish:, and the trails are on the list for today. We’ll probably have a relaxing afternoon at the hotel, before heading over to the Wilderness Lodge to have dinner at Artist Point. I’m really looking forward to this…I love the theming at this hotel!

Thursday is our 10th anniversary:hug:, and I’m pretty sure we have a practically perfect day planned!:wizard: We start off at 7am for the Sunrise Safari, which I believe concludes with breakfast at Pizzafari? We may hit a ride or two at Animal Kingdom, before heading back to the Lodge for a nice relaxing day. That afternoon, we’ll get semi-gussied up, and head over to Narcoossee’s for our anniversary dinner. This is the only night where I don’t really care if they rush us - we’re headed to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party for the evening:santa:! Grumpy and I only did this once before - on our very first trip to the WDW together, back in 2001. I remember it well….the night of the big monsoon! We literally stepped off the monorail ramp at the Magic Kingdom into ankle deep water :scared1:- it made for a miserable evening, and we didn’t end up seeing any of the shows or the parade! This year, I’m going in with a plan!

Friday morning, we’ll sleep in to recover from the festivities, and try for the 9th time to go to lunch in Morocco. I went once on a trip with my sister, and have been trying to get back ever since. It always seems like this is the one ADR that we end up cancelling (hmmm….could be that Grumpy is not excited about it at all….:rolleyes1) We’ll see if we manage to get there this time! From there, I’m sure we’ll use more of our snack credits at Epcot. At this point in the week, our heavy touring is done, and we’re just there to wander around catching the atmosphere. We’ll head back to the lodge early, take advantage of some pre-dinner drinks in the lounge, and then head on over to the Contemporary, for a very late dinner reservation (9:10pm) at the California Grill. If I’ve timed this correctly, we should be there during the MVMCP fireworks, so I’m pretty excited about it!:cheer2:

Yeah....I wouldn't want the added walk pregnant either.

I'm considering doing MVMCP Thursday night too. I'm planning on AK for that day, so it wouldn't interfere with our other park touring, but I'm not sure about keeping the baby out until midnight. He'll probably sleep in the stroller just fine, but I don't know. I suppose I could ask DH if he wants to, but his Disney logic is the best. If only I knew whether or not there would be tickets available the day of for last minute decisions.
