Canadians Flying to Orlando from Buffalo - Quarantine Apply??

14 day quarantines just announced for anyone entering New York , New Jersey , and Connecticut.
I can't say that I blame those 3 states as they've all done a great job of flattening their curves but that about seals things for those flying out of Buffalo even if the border opens.

When i look at numbers in many other states I think these 3 are wise to be taking that step!

Just curious where you found that information as all I can find (so far) was that they were considering doing this but it had not yet been officially instated.

Update: Found it on CNN but it also states it's only for those traveling into those states from states that have a high Covid infection rates. IF the border re-opens, I don't believe this would apply to Canadians at this time as our rates are not considered high. Where it would affect NY, NJ and CT travellers are those who go to FL. They would need to quarantine when returning home, just are we are in Canada.

Yes I’m sorry , I originally thought it was everyone . I edited my post . How would this work for people flying out of Buffalo ? You wouldn’t quarantine on the front end but on the back end you would be coming into Buffalo from Florida which will almost certainly be named. And then potentially a second quarantine after coming back to Canada ? It would be redundant to do a second quarantine but I can see it happening. I definitely don’t see flying from Buffalo as a viable option for anyone for a good long while .

It will depend on the details but I would guess as long as you provide an address you will be quarantining at, I don't think it HAS to be in the state your flight lands in but who knows??

Like you , I can't see flying out of Buffalo as a good option for a good long time! That being said, I checked flight prices out of Toronto for our trip yesterday and they're the best I've ever seen! One silver lining even if I'm not willing to book.

I would suspect you're right ie you land, they tell you about the quarantine, you state you live in Canada, and they send you on your way 'without stopping' but it will be interesting to see how it goes. I usually watch the DVC sections here and it from what I can tell the FL one was basically ignored as it ran on the honour system.

The order also runs by infection rates apparently so if FL gets under control it apparently goes away automagically.

Mr. Cuomo said the quarantine would apply to states where either 10 percent of the total population tested positive, or where there were 10 infections per every 100,000 people on 7-day rolling average. Included immediately, he said: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, Texas and Washington State.

Oh yes, I understand I would need to do A LOT of investigating into health insurance before crossing the border. We all will! Not a single one of us Will be immune to that once the border opens again, whenever that is. I’m thrilled that it’s closed right now and until things are more under control south of us I have great confidence the border will remain closed!!
As I say, I’ve done A LOT of planning for this trip (we go to Disney normally 2-3 times a year) so I am very aware of insurance, borders, safet, etc.

The one thing that hadn’t crossed my mind was the thought of driving 30 mins over the border, dropping off the car and flying out 2 hours later could = quarantine in FL for 14 days!

To me it’s no different than those who drive through any part of the tristate area to get to FL being asked to quarantine. In many ways my time in NY will be less than those who drive. I always assumed (yes, I know!) that the quarantine would be based upon residence, not point of departure.

if you travel to an area where the Canadian government has issued a travel advisory it usually nullifies your health insurance so even if the border opens you may not have any health coverage. Triple check this! We were supposed to travel August 30 for a week. We have cancelled.

Yes, I'm quite aware of needing to check thanks. We travel A LOT so am well aware of what I need to do to confirm we have coverage.

My main concern for flying now is just the chance that there could be someone nearby from a more high risk area, which makes it difficult to know who may need to quarantine just from airport interactions, even if they are not from a higher risk area
