Canadians - DVC rentals

Have any of you guys done the DVC rentals? We just got back on Sunday from our trip. We stayed POR and I loved it!

My husband however did not love Disney so my plans for 2012 don't include him, but do inlcude my mom & MIl. So that makes 6 people. I thought maybe renting points for a villa would be an affordable option?

I have rented points twice and I am renting again this March for 2 nights. We stayed at SSR in a 2 bedroom villa for 10 nights a few years ago for $2800 ($280 a night). This time we are staying at BCV for 2 nights but one night is a friday so it is more points. We are paying $300/nt for a 2 bedroom villa. We will do this and then move over to a villa offsite to relax. A luixury 2 bedroom villa offsite is $198/night so even DVC can cost quite a bit.

I found my rental points on a timeshare rental board. The DVC disboard folks rarely offer less than $10 per point and I got mine for much less. THere was a huge amount of trust involved but once I paid 1/2, my renter sent me the reservation in my name to assure me all was well. You do still have a little fear until you arrive and check in.

DVC members can book 11 months in advance on their "home resort" (the one they bought into) and 7 months in advance for another DVC. I got in at the 7 month window. To try and get a 2 bedroom villa at BCV now might be tricky - they book fast in high season.

I had a contract with my renter and we spoke on the phone many times so I felt good about the transaction - as good as you can feel.

Try to find a Canadian who is local to you to rent from..........that would jhave made me feel better.
