Canadian Pavilion

Let's face it.. it's a glorified gift shop. :)

But then again.. these days.. so is the Chateau Frontenac.. (hee hee)

Anyone else have the lyrics of I'm a Lumberjack and I'm okay going through their heads? Maybe that is just me.

No it's not just you...I was actually thinking the same thing before I got to your post! :rotfl2:

We enjoy going to the Cdn pavilion and chatting with the CMs. We're at Epcot every year on Thanksgiving so we grab turkey legs and go to the pavilion to wish our fellow Canucks a Happy Turkey Day. Sure it's a stereotype but as others have pointed out, all of the pavilions are.

F4 -- Why hate the news of a new movie about Canada?

You're really in love with the one from 1979 ?

:)

I love the old movie and felt there was nothing wrong with it it represented teh country and landscape yes the clothes people wore had changed but the country landscape etc especially the rockies and praries etc hadn't so did it really matter that teh people and clothing looked a little dated no it gave the movie it's charm and likability. I mean honestly what can they change oh the rogers centre and the way people dress now are all I can really think of the rest is the same oh maybe throw in some people working on the oil sands in Alberta it is a waste of a great film IMHO.

I don't actually mind the movie, but looking forward to something new. And since my DNephew will be a CM in the pavillion exactly one month from today, I'll refrain from making fun of the lumberjack outfits. :rotfl:

How awesome!

I sent out my resume too.

The interviews are only in March and April in Montreal :)

Does anyone else think their choice of a main building (Hotel du Canada I believe they call it?) was sort of random? Took me ages to figure out what the heck it was supposed to be representing, and I still can't say I've seen the building that it's supposed to look like... I might be a bit biased but I'd imagine more Canadians had seen (and would recognize), say, the CN tower (can you tell I'm from TO? lol) than the Château Laurier (which is apparently the building it was modeled after).

I'm, from Quebec (not the city but the province).

So the irst time I saw it I thought it was "chateau Frontenac" in Quebec city

The Hotel du Canada is inspired by the architecture of the Chateau Laurier or Frontenac. Not an exact replica of either. And like someone mentioned a lot of downtown Ottawa is a similar style.

When I was a CM guests raved about the movie saying what an incredibly beautiful country we had and how friendly the cast members were. Sure people asked stupid questions like "do you have igloos" but those people probably were looking for the tram to Universal and wondered what time the 3 o'clock parade is.

I've posted in these threads before so I won't get into it but most here don't seem to understand the spirit of the world showcase. Who wants to look at a replica of a tall fibreglass and concrete building when you can have beautiful gardens and a waterfall.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Hotel du Canada is gorgeous, as are the gardens, etc. It just seems odd to me that they wouldn't put in what is arguably one of the most recognizable buildings in Canada. After all, if I'm not mistaken "France" has the Eiffel Tower. :)

You'll notice the entire pavillon represents Canada over 100 years ago. Trading post, mine etc. A modern tower from the 1970's wouldn't exactly go...

Hmmmm....I don't think Hotel Canada is a take on the Chateau Laurier...I live in Ottawa & when I was at the Canadian Pavillion & asked what the building was (because I could not identify it!), I was told by the CM's that it was of Quebec's Frontenac. In either case, it would in my opinion make the most sense to make a miniature Parliament Hill, which is probably the most easily identifiable & truly Canadian icon....sorry Toronto CN Tower fans!

Not sure I love the flannel but given I'm currently wearing it, probably fitting! Le Cellier rocks & don't forget our very own Off Kilter! Never saw the movie but our CM's are extremely friendly. Overall, I was proud to be Canadian while at that end of Epcot!

Off Kilter isn't Canadian they are from all over the place the band members are from Ireland florida and Puerto Rico. Here is a link to their website.

Like I said before it's not a replica of either. It was inspired by the style of architecture.

Ahh, but remember, we all wear lumberjack outfits and go to the local trading post for our food!;)

I would have been delighted they recognized we celebrate Christmas up here and not "Maple Sugar Camp Holiday" or some such silliness.. :)

Thanks, dsneygirl for a former CM's viewpoint. Appreciated! :goodvibes

I think that the Butchart Gardens replica is a bit.. random.
I'm sure a lot of people are proud of it, it's just... random.
